Re: Mon microscope "Bresser" science infinity
@Louise: He mounted the camera to the photo port of a trino tube of an Olympus. On one of the observation ports he mounted a light sensor. Then he focussed on a contrasty edge, probably one of the silvered test slides he made, with a strong objective. He then measured the vibration on can also see b...

Re: Astronomer Considering Microscopy
I think over all there are more people interested in astronomy as there are people interested in microscopy. When comparing the numbers of people who actually got beyond the very first steps the difference might be even more extreme. For this reason it is likely that there is fewer literature on mic...

Re: First take on imaging
Rolf's latest and best version for Zeiss West 160mm is based on a Zeiss C5 and a Leitz Periplan eyepiece, perhaps easier to find. Old KPL10 are not very common in Germany too. To set up the adaptation one chooses a certain amount of lift (or no lift) and adjusts camera position until it is parfocal....

I think there are some less frequent situations where it is better to switch off EFSC but I can't remember. The Sonys from NEX 5N on had it activated by default.

Re: First take on imaging
For the Sony a Sigma 30mm 1:2,8 might be a useful lens. I made the adapters on the lathe. One should use an eyepiece that is dedicated to the camera as the distance eyepiece-camera lens has to be adjusted precisely. With a hybrid eyepiece it might be possible to get a shot setup without camera objec...

Re: First take on imaging
Analog micro photography needed much more frustration tolerance so there are fewer trino tubes on the used markets than demand today and the prices are high. After many years of active microscopy and a lot of fairly good photos I started only recently to use a trino head, so it is not that high on m...

Re: First take on imaging
For critical testing of camera adaptations I would suggest to use an object micrometer, covered with a tiny drop of immersion oil and a cover slip (idealy exactly 0,17mm). This makes it easier to evaluate the differences. An eyepiece in its normal position doesn't project onto the sensor so it has t...

Re: Mon microscope "Bresser" science infinity
One important point is always to have parfocality between observation and camera. Not only for convenience but the objective would otherwise be used in the wrong focus position and not as it was calculated.

Re: Mon microscope "Bresser" science infinity
Hi Frank, as far as I know Nikon has made comparatively few DSLRs with EFSC, mainly the newest APS-C and some full format ones. or your infinity optics microscope it would be typical to use non-correctin eyepieces. The ideal way to adapt a camera would be to put the sensor exactly in the plane of th...

Re: Mon microscope "Bresser" science infinity
Hi Frank, good idea to switch over to English! We have quite a bunch of near undecipherable native languages assembled here and using english is probably the least painful solution. Many Canon DSLRs are highly regarded as microscope cameras because they were among the first to have EFSC, electronic ...

Re: What’s an economical way to get into metallurgical microscopy?
The most economic way of all is probably to start reading on this topic, on archive.org there will most likely be a book available on free loan. My impression is that metallurgical microscopes are sometimes offered for a lot of money but are rarely bought at this price as amateurs usually are not in...

Re: Eyepeice camera?
In this case a non-correcting third-party adapter and a camera with electronic first shutter curtain will give good results. This could be e.g. a SONY NEX 5N (not NEX 5) or a Canon EOS 500D. The adapter would have to contain a lens group that projects the intermediate image onto the sensor in a usea...

Re: Eyepeice camera?
Hi A., sub 100 USD and good photo quality is a nice challenge and not completely impossible. For good quality it is important to know how the color correction of your microscope optics are designed: In most 160/170mm microscopes the eyepieces are involved in this correction and can't be left away. Y...

Hi imkap, to help you with your design I tested my Zeiss Jena phase telescope. It works with Zeiss West and other systems too. When the draw tube is fully pused it in focusses a little beyond infinity. When pulles out to the maximum it focusses to about 125mm, measured from the flange with which it ...

Re: looking for a plan 2.5x objective
The trinocular head is not the central part of Rolf's camera adaptation, you cou use it with a mono or bino tube too. What he did is to assemble projectives from eyepiece parts to project a well corrected image directly onto the cameras chip. This projective sits at the given tube length of the micr...

Re: looking for a plan 2.5x objective
Also it indeed needs plan compensating eyepieces (PK as Zeiss called them at the time). Are you sure about the "K" for correction? Many lower power Zeiss Jena objectives were not calculated to be used with correcting eyepieces. I don't know this objective. This one here wouldn't work in your setup,...

Hi Judge,
it would hep to mention in wich country you are and whether you are using platforms like ebay. There used to be very nice x-y stages and also object guides to mount onto an existing stage from variuos quality brands of the past.

Re: wide view objective
Hi Dave,
apart from the object field of the objective the camera and it's adaptation plays a bit role in how much area you can get in your photo. With an eyepiece of 18mm field of view a 4:1 objective should cover an object diameter of 18mm/4=4,5mm. Do you get this area in your photos?
