Re: About camera on a microscope
If you already have a smart phone just use that as a camera. From what I've seen those microscope specific cameras aren't very good. You either want a dslr setup or just a smart phone with an adapter.

Re: Could i get a cooler bulb?
If the issue is the brightness being too much on your eyes you can hook up a dslr to a computer monitor and not even have to use the eye pieces at all.

Looks like a rotifer but a small one for 400x. Hard to tell with one picture.

Re: Labeled Amoeba Pictures
That could be one. There are a lot of different types of amoebas. The one you photographed seems to have be the typical blob shape with pseudopods. But in your picture I can't make out any vacuoles or nucleus but regardless it does look like an amoeba. It never occurred to me that amoebas might move...

Labeled Amoeba Pictures
Are these labels accurate? Might be hard to tell with a picture but I haven't uploaded the video yet. I don't know which vacuoles are contractile or food but since the one's I didn't label food vacuole kept disappearing and reappearing I am guessing they were the movement vacuoles. edit: Actually al...

Re: Aeolosoma?
How did you get such good resolution? How did you get the subject to move so slowly? This is dic differential interference contrast which creates shadows filmed with some kind of dslr camera probably. Big worms usually don't move much. The worm is also huge which makes it easier for the camera to t...

Re: Bacilli Bacteria? other Bacteria and Worms
Sample is from a pond water ecosphere jar. The jar has a lot of dirt in it which is why it has so much bacteria I think. I took this sample with an eye dropper in the middle of plants in the jar. So this bacilli is the species that grows from aquatic plants I guess. Same with the other bacteria I su...

Re: DSLR AC Adapters affect image quality?
Most products I see on amazon have reviews that say there is a humming/buzzing sound. I don't know if its something with the signal or vibration.

DSLR AC Adapters affect image quality?
DSLR AC adapters usually have issues with making a buzzing sound apparently. Anyone know if this issue affects the cameras image quality while taking microscope pictures and videos? For example this ac adapter: https://www.amazon.com/FIT-POWER-Panasonic-DMW-BLC12-Replacement-DMC-FZ200/dp/B0744JBK8Q/...

Big thing was a rotifer. I got lucky finding this because I could only see it in phase contrast and I happened to be using phase when it appeared.

Re: Live diatoms. Some 100X darkfield.
Any more details? These are with your olympus? I take the dark field is continous light? Are the DIC ones continous light or flash? I assume its an apo dic objective? Stacks? All with the Olympus BHS. First two are 100/1.40 S Plan Apo with a Zeiss Ultra-Condenser (oil) fitted to the stand. (That ob...

What is the difference between objectives like Olympus UPlan Apo or Olympus SPlan Apo? I have read about the differences between achromat fluorite plan apo and such but I can't find any in information on what the letters like uplan and splan mean.

Well I'm actually using infinity motic objectives and some other non olympus objectives with the bx40 but I plan on upgrading to actual olympus objectives eventually so whether or not the motic ones won't work right doesn't really matter. I'll pm you.

4/3 Camera Adapter for BX40
I just got a BX40 so now I need an adapter for my Panasonic micro 4/3 camera. I guess the standard option is the OLYMPUS OM-MOUNT PHOTOMICRO ADAPTER L. But can I get an attachment for it to fit a 4/3 camera without decreasing image quality? Or should I get something without any optics that just puts...

Re: Also Needing Microscope Purchase Advice
Thank you for all the interesting discussion and advice. I'm leaning to the 160 plan for Nikon, Oly, Zeiss. Not only will I probably get a good scope, but I would guess resale would be better as well. 75rr, the Zeiss you linked look very good, and the seller allows returns. Scarodactyl, the Nikon l...

Re: Also Needing Microscope Purchase Advice
Wouldn't that not even really be an upgrade though? How much better would that things images be? As opposed to an amscope? Yes, it will likely be significantly better than an amscope, cheaper and more expandable. He linked a few alphaphots in his first post, which are the student tier member of tha...

Re: Also Needing Microscope Purchase Advice
Aren't the plan infinity objectives on the amscope still better than the regular objectives on the zeiss? Or wait what are the objectives on that zeiss? Plan-Neofluar? So it does have good plan objectives? I don't understand why these are so cheap aren't good brand plan objectives quite expensive ev...
