Re: What's the coolest subject for stereo?
Pond creatures such as Copepods, hydras and dragonfly larvae are pretty common in the pond samples I've taken and very cool to observe in my stereo scope. I also agree with Kurt that it is fun to observe first in a stereo scope and then transfer specimens to a slide. What would you say are the diff...

Thanks Bruce and hb2sbdb !
Hb2sbdb-- I would love to see other videos of this Loxophylium. Its on a short list of ciliates that don't move quickly away from lights ! I hope I encounter more of them.

Large Ciliate
This is one of the largest ciliates I've seen in my pond aquarium.I have a large population of smaller Loxodes, but I will take a guess that this it is some kind of Loxophylium ? The view is clearer around the 40s mark.

Sorry I cant help with the ID, but I'm curious how you came about finding it ? Did you see it in the soil and pick it out to examine ?

Thank you Bruce ! I originally suspected a Hypotrich and was looking for, but could not detect an AZM, thank you for pointing it out. An ID of hypotrich is certainly enough for my needs.

Re: What is a good video camera to use with a microscope?
I've been using a Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera and it has been great to use for microscope videos. I had a Panasonic GH4 in the past but never used it for microscopy. It is also a wonderful mirrorless camera. The Z6 is now able to record Prores Raw 4K UHD at 12 bits if you use an external recorder. IM...

Ciliate ID request
This is the first time I've seen this particular ciliate. It is from the bottom of my pond aquarium. I'd be grateful for any ID of it. Aside from the caudal cirri, I cant recognize any specific features. The first view is at 20x with a 40x view at the 20s mark. It was moving pretty fast to keep up w...

Re: Best adhesive for glass to plastic and glass to glass
Depending on your intended use, if you decide to try silicone sealant, you should be careful about which type you use. Most sealants intended for household use, e.g. bathtub sealant etc., are compounded with antifungals, which can be harmful to living organisms. There are sealants made without thes...

Re: Best adhesive for glass to plastic and glass to glass
Thanks all for the advice -- I use the Commercial plastic petri dishes with coverslip bottoms dozens of times before its time to get a new one. I think they get slightly scratched over time. My main reason for gluing a new cover slip on a used dish, is that I want to use a #0 coverslip for the repla...

Best adhesive for glass to plastic and glass to glass

The problem being it does not deliver full resolution via usb. It is good to hear a first hand account of using one. Specs are one thing but it's hard to know how it will handle without trying it. If thats the case, usb would be a show stopper. Thanks all for the software tips, I may check it out j...

Re: HA2307 HDMI industrial camera
I have to say after living with this camera for several weeks, I can not wait for my Nikon to come back. The thing that bothers me the most about this camera is the automatic exposure. It supposedly has exposure compensation through the menu, but it doesn't function correctly. Maybe I just don't und...

Re: Lang-Elektronik motorized stage
I'm not sure if the micro switches are functional or not, but for the x axis, pressing "start" just moves the stage in the direction of the lighted x axis button. It will move until it hits the end of the rack with motors still spinning or until the "stop" button is pressed. I have done several exp...
