Re: Paramecium 3D View
No streams/creeks around you? The creek near me has all sorts of calm pond like places where there are diatoms, amoeba, tardigrades, etc... It was very nice of them to help you get some algae! I had aquariums in the past and it was very easy to grow algae! In fact, it was hard to get rid of! Algae n...

Re: Pond water tank
I'm in the USA. The heads might not be optically correct for my microscope. Plus the bottom of the head will not connect to my base. :| Ah, sorry I got mixed up on thr location. That's a lot easier. The optics and dovetail are both correct for the Eclipse series. The late series optiphots (optiphot...

Re: Pond water tank
It might be harder in Germany, but here there are occasionally heads available from the later series optiphots which were infinity corrected. Here's an example of one of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-Trinocular-Non-Tilt-Head-for-Optiphot-150-200-or-300-AS-IS/263952849238 Sometimes these wer...

Re: Pond water tank
Hi WhyMe, trino head are really quite expensive for some microscope types. An alternative would be a setup like this: A tiny DSLM camera body, pancake normal to light wide angle lens and an eyepiece with high(ish) eyepoint, assembled to one unit and inserted in one port of the bino tube. This is ve...

Re: Pond water tank
How much are you looking to spend on a trinoc? It is super easy to get a cheap one that takes older 23mm eyepieces (20mm FoV) that is also easy to connect an aps-c camera to via direct projection. If I find a decently priced trinocular head for my scope I will definitely buy it, but I fear it will ...

Re: Pond water tank
Hey WhyMe-I remember how excited I got when I saw my first amoeba! Keep looking for them and you’ll find some really bizarre types-not just the amorphous blobs but beautiful spiky balls that can pump cytoplasm into a spike and turn it into a fleshy pseudopod at will to gently scoop bacteria towards...

Re: Pond water tank
I'm using a stereo microscope on a combination of Manfrotto joint arm and vintage Pentax macro slide. This is works well for the available magnification of 10x and 30x and can reach a bit into the pond aquarium. For higher powers the tank wall would be a problem so it doesn't make much sense to poi...

Pond water tank
I've been keeping a small 3-gallon fish tank filled with water from a creek near my house. I've seen rotifers, diatoms, all the usual things. But yesterday I saw my first amoeba! I watched it for a long time. It was captivating to watch it move! I rinsed the slide back into the tank and took another...

Re: Some living diatoms I
Very cool! I need to find a 30mm eyepiece camera for my scope, my scope doesn't have a trinocular head. But I'm pretty lost when it comes to microscope cameras and what's needed to obtain a good photo.
