Re: Glaucoma scintillans?
I found another cilate in water form the same pond, which might be the 'normal' more oval shaped specimen of this genus or species.

Re: illumination change when making a video
I think you need to look for something like ‘Exposure Lock’ or ‘AE Lock’ This worked!. Thanks. I have to keep pressing the button untill I stop recording, but that's no problem. Setting Movie AE Mode to Manual 'M' does it on mine I can't find that setting on my camera. if M mode alone doesn't work ...

illumination change when making a video
The problem is the following: when I make a video of a dark field scene, the illumination of my camera changes automatically when the center of the camera points to something black or non-black (say 'white'). So, when - in a dark field scene - the illuminated (white) object is centered in the FOV, t...

Glaucoma scintillans?
I found this almost rond ciliates in my small pond. To me it looks like the above mentioned ciliate, especially because of the shape of its mouth and the way it moves. The largest one in this video is about 44 microns long. Most video's I have seen of this species are somewhat more oval, so maybe I ...

Frontonia
I found this nice ciliate in my small pond. I think it is a Frontonia species because it looks much like Frontonia accuminata I have uploaded some time ago. The black spot misses though. According to Kahl, there is a variant without such a black spot, Fr. accuminata var. angusta. Maybe it is this on...

I don't think its colpodea. I don't know the size, but to me it looks more like a chilodonellid.

I have also used avidemux but I didn't get good results, because for me it was too difficult to use. I did not understand the terminology. I use 'Shotcut' now. Much more intuitive and lots of 'how to' movies on Youtube. It's also freeware.

Very nice Euplotes
I found this Euplotes in my small pond. It didn't move around, so I could observe it with my 63 mm objective, giving almost an 800 magnification with my 12.5 mm eyepieces. Amazing how much detail can be observed. I recognize diatoms and green algae. I wonder what the smaller white round spots are. T...

Re: Oblique filter suggestions
This is clearly oblique illumination. It works best, in my experience, with medium magnifications. I use my 25 and 40 m objective most of the time with this kind of illumination. With my orthoplan, the 10 mm objective does not work for oblique illumination and my 63 mm does work, but is somewhat mor...

Thanks Bruce. I once posted video of another ciliate on Youtube, which I thought was Chilodontopsis depressa. I don't think I posted it here on this forum. It looks different from this one so I can easily have been wrong. It is here:

unknown ciliate
I found this very flexible ciliate in my small pond. Im sure it's not a Hypotrichia, but that's all I can say about its ID. I see a basket in the upper half of the cell and close to that, I think, I see a macronucleus. CV's close to the rear end. Sometimes it looks oval, sometimes roundish and somti...

I found this nice, colorfull hypotrich in my small pond. It is about 145 microns long, very flexable and if I counted well, it has four or five rows of cilii. I think I saw the CV not far from the center of the body (lengthwise) and two macronuclei nodes.
