Re: What is The best microscope camera?

The review didn't cover MFT cameras, but MFT is still a large sensor compared to most of the USB/C-mount cameras, and I would expect it to produce good results, similar to APS-C cameras.... I can not argue with that. MFT can also be quite light, the ones I have been using are less than 350g with du...

Re: Voice Control? Foot Control?

I remember tape recorders back then often had a remote control input that let you stop and start the machine for taking dictation, with a subminature jack on the recorder and a switch on the microphone or in a foot pedal. Some microcomputers used that input to throttle playback while loading program...

As you can attest, there is more to getting good images than just the camera. Define "best", for whom, what and with what, and I am sure you will get some suggestions.

The diameter of a m4/3 sensor is 22.5mm, so it is theoretically possible for the c mount to cause a little vignetting. It may depend on the adapter.
I think we will get lucky (I bought a GX85 for video as well). The crop factor reduces the camera's video diagonal to 22.5 / 2.2 * 2 = 20.5 mm.

Also, how is the field of view on the 1" compared with the 4/3"? I would like to avoid excessive cropping on my viewport. Better a little vignetting in a video than to entirely miss the area I that I am manipulating.... The GX80/GX85 has a 2.2 crop factor (w.r.t. 35mm full frame) when shooting vide...

Re: Camera for live streaming on desktop Mac

You can also save money if you need live video. If you deduct $200 for the two bundled kit lenses, a new GX85, which outputs clean, continuous, 4K HDMI video, was less than $300+tax when it was being closed out about three years ago. (I am just getting started with one which is why I did not mention...

I agree. You can save money with a mirrorless camera, especially if you do not need live video. I am looking at under $200 to add an E-PL7 (an Olympus demo unit, 3000 shutter cycles with a two year, camera store guarantee) to my father's SMZ-2T.

Re: Camera for live streaming on desktop Mac

... According to the specs of your microscope you have a trinocular mount with 23mm c-mount photoport. In this case the easiest (and rather economic) solution might be to mount a consumer mft-camera (e.g. Panasonic or Olympus) which provides an HDMI-port. There are cheap mft-to-c-mount adapters (<2...

I reckon they are more toward 0.5mm^2 (20AWG), the limit of what some cage clamp connectors will accept. Probably midway or 22AWG. The DC connectors also have a current limit. The first five I looked at have a 1A or 2A rating. Well, now that you have got me whipped into a researching frenzy, from su...

Did either vendor give a maximum rating for their pigtailed power connectors? I looked again at the specs for some 5.5/2.1mm male-female extension cables I bought in 2020 to power a couple mirrorless cameras. Translated they read: "recommended for up to 36VDC and 3A maximum load or less". A camera w...

The changes I can think of right now are: a 25mm rather than 20mm shaft standard, diopter adjustments on the eyepieces instead of the eyepiece tubes, a much lighter but still metal housing, interchangeable rack and pinion units rather than hand matched pairs, and original heavy damping grease that d...

Hi Michel. I am still trying to understand how the 38mm ISO port -> T2, T2 -> µ4/3rds pair is supposed to work. A T-mount is supposed to have a 55mm flange focal distance. If I make no mistake, the first adapter will need a relay lens because the ISO port has 26mm shorter focal distance. Would a goo...

Re: Is there a use for a 25x eyepiece?

While 25X is pushing it, a pair of 20X eyepieces are handy with the Wild M7 models. They effectively double the zoom range, split into two overlapping, lower and higher ranges. With the M7's 0.07 NA and limited, 3.1X maximum zoom, empty magnification should start with ca. 1000 * 0.07 / 3.1 = 23X eye...

It is probably easiest to mount your GX80 on your 38mm photo tube. What is Wild photo tube part number? To mount the camera, you will need two items. First, a 1X (optic-less) ISO 38mm to c-mount adapter. My favorite is the Leitz 543345 , which Wild also sold under their name and own part number. The...
