Great work!

Out of curiosity, when you take the photo do you have a green filter in the light path and shoot in B&W?

Re: Jamin-Lebedeff Interference Contrast Microscopy

Many thanks to everyone for the interest. While I find these really cool from an aesthetic perspective, I’m struggling a bit to see the practical application of this technique. What would this method reveal that others do not? It allows you to measure the phase difference between an object of intere...

Jamin-Lebedeff Interference Contrast Microscopy

After searching for a while I finally found a complete Jamin-Lebedeff interference set that I could install on my Phomi. Its a system of condensers and objectives where each pair contains an optically identical crystal used for beam splitting and recombining. A reference beam is compared to a sample...

Re: Help with Microscope?

For a med student you could get a nice binocular Zeiss Standard with a 2,5 to 100x achromat (or maybe even plan) objectives for about $300. Its all you really need for histological sections (I think thats what they do in med school). Depending on which part of the world you are it could be that some...

Acanthocystis

You can observe the kinetosomes moving back and forth on the axonemes.

Taken with Planapo 63/1,4 with DIC. Depending on your internet connection you can choose 1080p for best video quality.

Re: First attempts at arranging diatoms

Can you estimate how the results of your measurements of cover slips were spread? Natural gaussian spread or a gap in the middle? For me it is the question when I buy loose tolerance cover slips e.g. #1.5 (0,16mm to 0,19mm): Are the 0,17mm ones included or do they sell them separately? @Wes: Here i...

Your aim (precise and round) makes sense, especially for work intensive arranged slides.
Other than ringing the cured slide on a ringing table is there any other particular reason to use round coverslips? I somehow doubt square coverslips would be much worse, but maybe I miss something here.

First attempts at arranging diatoms

Charles, I do not have financial relations with suppliers of Falcon tubes, and I do not remember their price, but for what its worth, they never leak. Neither the 15mls, nor the 50mls. Nice microscope!!

Looks like you're quite lucky because you have a complete DIC system on an otherwise great Zeiss scope. After you go over Charles' documentation on the DIC system please let us know how you like it and post some DIC imagery if you can. That would be exciting!
