Re: Leitz wetzlar orthoplan 402a condenser does not rotate

Old thread, but I wanted to add that the fine focus on my Ortholux is Bert easy to assemble and disassemble. I found the details I wanted by searching through old Leitz patents via google. I basically had to soak a Ortholux. In engine degreaser.

Re: Snakeskin specimen

I warm glycerin jelly on a coffee cup warmer or candle warmer. Works well and on some of the warmers the whole slide can also be placed flat on the heat plate. This book is dirt cheap on amazon and has tons of info for slide making, keeping various protists in culture, and other great info. https://...

That will give you info on the parts of the same style of microscope. It would be much easier to refer to photos than parts of a video. You mentioned you had questions, what are they?

Re: Wanted AO 20 compatible pieces

I’ve always read that the NA is always limited to the lowest part of the system. I did not think that there would be a “functional NA” in the manner you describe. Good info to know. And thanks for the condenser information. I will keep an eye out for those pieces. You are talking about just the lens...

Re: Wanted AO 20 compatible pieces

That is some great information, thanks. We had a discussion about the 1240 condenser with 1242 top lens a while ago. You determined that as a BF it was working around 1.3 NA aspheric and somewhere slightly less than 0.9 NA dry. http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6491 I...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QFTAQKkS1Ek You can adjust the stage tension and all that. It has been a while since I worked on mine, but I did have to disassemble the entire stage mechanism. There are screws that I think are pretty obvious to adjust tension, but I recall that it was quite difficult...

Not sure. Maybe to adjust for the difference distances that the image of your specimen is in focus. This way it could be used in more microscopes.

Wanted AO 20 compatible pieces

Hi I recently changed jobs and am paid significantly more. Even better, I was given an AO 20 when I left. It needs nee prisms in the trinocular, has all the standard filters, came with the 1240 phase condenser with 1242 top lens (sadly missing bottom lens for bright field), the transformer, and some...

Never mind. Turns out it is just super dirty, to the point it looked like a curve in the metal around the base of the lens to its holder and is frozen from old grease. Not sure how to get it out actually.

Berek Condenser or Fraud?

I just bought what said it was a dual iris Berek Condenser, but the top flip out lens is not exchangeable. My understanding is that the Berek has to lenses, a 0.9 dry and a 1.25 oil lens. So, what do I have? It does has dual iris.

If you have other photos of the full shape I might be able to get to species. Just a FYI, when using photos to ID mushrooms you really need images of the cap and stem details and textures, nice details of underneath the cap for the gills or pores, etc, and frequently a spore print makes a huge diffe...

Looking for the oil 1.25 NA lens for the Leitz Berek Condenser. Also, if any one someone for some crazy reason has a Heine condenser I’d at least like to hear the price.

It has been a while since I looked at live sperm in the microscope, but as I recall using a coverslip and depression slide it was easy to see them. Re: Fungus Identification Help

Mycologist here. You just have hyphae and there is really no way of IDing it based on the photo alone. Fusarium species are very common and can come in many bright and distinctive colors. Until you find a spore producing structure I am afraid the best anyone can do is point towards a group of fungi.

If you want something clearer than agar try gellan gum. I like it myself. Use about 1/2 the amount of agar normally used, and most of the time it needs a small bit of calcium in it to polymerize. Also, it can take higher temps than agar. It is absolutely clear unless you use highly concentrated amou...

Hoffman is especially best for use with plastic petri dishes; since crossed polarizers (i.e., a polarizer and an analyzer) are not used, as they are in DIC, there is no colored strain-patterning in the field, as there would be if DIC was used with plastic dishes. The resolution is not as good as DI...
