Old thread, but I wanted to add that the fine focus on my Ortholux is Bert easy to assemble and disassemble. I found the details I wanted by searching through old Leitz patents via google. I basically had to soak a Ortholux. In engine degreaser.

I’ve always read that the NA is always limited to the lowest part of the system. I did not think that there would be a “functional NA” in the manner you describe. Good info to know. Not sure. Maybe to adjust for the difference distances that the image of your specimen is in focus. This way it could be used in more microscopes.

Never mind. Turns out it is just super dirty, to the point it looked like a curve in the metal around the base of the lens to its holder and is frozen from old grease. Not sure how to get it out actually.

I just bought what said it was a dual iris Berek Condenser, but the top flip out lens is not exchangeable. My understanding is that the Berek has to lenses, a 0.9 dry and a 1.25 oil lens. So, what do I have? It does has dual iris.

Isn’t Pv specific to the Heine condenser? If I had a Heine I would be very interest d in the 20x WE.

That looks like a part of the lighting system beneath a condenser.

If you have other photos of the full shape I might be able to get to species. At hardware stores, in the specialty section, I have found metal and plastic hole plugs for things like the holes in desks for wires. These work well and have the benefit of being professionally manufactured.

Anyone happen to know if these would work on an Ortholux with a Heine condenser? Hopefully I can get a hold of a Heine some time. I know the 160 length is compatible.

It looks like there is a mucor-like species, perhaps a aspergillus as well, and then the purple colored one, I am not so sure about.

Mycologist here. You just have hyphae and there is really no way of IDing it based on the photo alone. Fusarium species are very common and can come in many bright and distinctive colors. Until you find a spore producing structure I am afraid the best anyone can do is point towards a group of fungi.

Use the thin razor blades that fit in older shaving razors. The double sided razors are the thinnest, just break it in have to have two blades.
