Re: AO 110 opportunity!
Sorry. I meant the higher NA the more detail. Is that also true with two objectives of the same power but different NAs?

Re: AO 110 opportunity!
When Apochronaut says that the close objectives of 45x and 50x make sense because the 50x is oil (and Plan WITH IRIS in this case), will I see a difference between the dry 450x and the oil 500x? From what I understand, the reason for the oil using certain objectives is that the angles of light cann...

Re: AO 110 opportunity!
Thank you for the advice. I'm going to get it and then monkey with it and then I'll have a better idea of what I want to do if anything. Surely I won't need both of 45x and 50x. I would like something in the 20x range because that would fill a gap between 10 and 45. As far as he is getting confused...

Re: AO 110 opportunity!
It is a good deal Charles, especially, since you can use it in advance, just as long as everything is so-so. I am very familiar with these, so I will go over a few ; watch for's. Firstly. is it trinocular? If you plan on doing any picture taking, you will need either that, or a teaching attachment....

I have already said yes to the deal. I am going to pay for it to be shipped to me and then after awhile pay for it and it should be mine if it's all he says it is.

AO 110 opportunity!
I have the opportunity to buy an older American Optical 110 with five Plan Infinity objectives: 10x, 10x long WD, 45x, 50x with iris, 100x oil for $300. Also has both bright field and dark field condensers. I will be able to use it for some time before I purchase it, if I do. Just thought I would ru...

Re: suspiciously low prices?
LOL. Since I can't tell one from the other with the same name, I think I'll just stay with regular achromats. I'll just buy a scope with Achromats, then buy Plans one at a time and compare them to the same power Achromat and keep the Plans I buy if they measure up.

Shouldn't this 4X Plan from Amscope be more expensive? They have a whole series of very inexpensive Plans; ones that seem noticeably less expensive than they should be, it seems. Are prices coming down or is there something wrong with this deal? http://www.amscope.com/4x-plan-achromatic-compound-mic...

Re: plan achros purchase
Thanks guys. Although I currently have a stereomicroscope, I am between compound microscopes. I am considering what to do because within the next month or so I'm going to buy another one and I am wondering if I should just piece one together to have a good one or just buy one outright. I'm just look...

Would these (10, 20, 40, 100) be worth the price over standard Achromats at $192 a set (4, 10, 40, 100).

My local library has a pond that is both feed by a small creek and contains a fountain. Would these features change the parameters in any way? This pond has cat tails around its bank.

Pond Water Collection Question
This may seem like an obvious question, but when collecting pond water, is it best to collect it where it's unobstructed by grass and weeds and things or is it best to find water in the gungy, mossy, grassy parts?

Re: marketing hype or excellent Optics?
As far as stereoscopes are concerned, I will be upgrading my stereo at some point I believe but not right now. I am in the market for another compound scope, though. Binocular, maybe trinocular. Limiting it to about $500.

Re: marketing hype or excellent Optics?
The documentation and the physical device itself says "2x barlow", the same as you would get with a telescope, although in a different housing of course. I knew in my heart that this was advertising just like the 60 millimeter refractor that advertises 1000 power but since I'm new to microscopy, I j...

marketing hype or excellent Optics?
Some of Amscope's boom-mounted, zoom Stereo scopes advertise power of 90x, some even 180x!. After looking into the details, I see they provide eyepieces providing up to 45x and then add a 2x barlow to achieve double the power. I know the 45x is reasonable power for these scopes because mine works ve...

Re: Darkfield or not?
cpsTN , I have an Amscope trinocular scope and I use two DF filters I made and I know you can have great success with them. The first is a US penny (about 20mms) that I glued to a round piece of clear plastic and lay on the LED lamp. It works with my 4X and 10X obj's. The second is a black circle a...

Darkfield or not?
I know there are "home made" ways to turn your light field into a darkfield. I do it by placing a quarter on top of the illuminator. All else being equal, is it worth the extra $$$ getting a dark field condenser?

Re: microscope objectives vs telescope eyepieces
Comparing them to telescopes near the end and to the Airy disk and the pond and made it much easier to understand. Not perfectly because it's not as straightforward as it is with telescopes but I have a much better understanding than I did before. Thank you all.

microscope objectives vs telescope eyepieces
Since microscope objectives come in designs like achromat apochromat, and these terms also refer to telescope eyepieces, would the numerical aperture of a microscope objective be more or less the same as the apparent field of view (AFOV) of a telescope eyepiece? If it is, does a larger NA mean a lar...

Re: 20x for Stereo Scopes?
I have done what you suggest. The Stereo came with two adapters, for 30mm and 30.5mm eyepieces. Since my compound is monocular, I have only one 23mm eyepiece to try. I have tried it with only ONE 15x, 30.5mm, but because they are different barrel diameters, the fields of view and brightnesses will b...

20x fpr Stereo Scopes?
As you can see from my signature, I have one of the small Stereo scopes from Amscope. I have the 15x eyepieces which work really well to give me a 45x with a good FOV and brightness. Will going up to 20x eyepieces, giving a power of 60x be worth the price given as far as their overall brightness and...

Does anyone know where I can get a petri dish or two, or know of any similar household item that does a similar job? instead of saying erect image, correct image is what is intended. A right-side-up image can still be mirror-reversed. We telescope nuts know all about this stuff. Thank you, Kurt, for the correction. Yes, that is something new to me, and it makes sense. We know all about the term of correct image, ...

Thanks Rod. I didn't know about them either until I found them. I was looking at a clover "flower" and noticed a couple of these guys moving around. So, there's no way to tell what the power is because the image size changes according to the viewing screen size?
