Re: One of the ones I’ve only heard about

But I use 70% alcohol and acetone most frequently while cleaning vintage stands. Don’t really use any of them with Protista. Are you using phase contrast? I get the best results with it hunting amoeba. Dark field and oblique illumination works well too. DIC is still just beyond my reach, but I’m st...

Re: Australian enthusiast

Thanks for the welcomes, and encouragement guys. I look forward to reading some of your posts as well. @Hobbyst46, When I saw it on ebay I did some research and realized immediately the potential for using the petri dishes and flasks which is all I currently intend to use on it. Re: Hello from the frozen Northwest!

It's an interesting thing - I've noticed that microscopy hobbyists tend to also be amateur astronomers far more often than the reverse is true. Wonder why? I think it's just a lot easier to get an astronomer to leave the cold open skies than to get a microscopist to leave a comfortable gas lift off...

Re: One of the ones I’ve only heard about

This is one of those finds I’ve only ever heard about. Here is an immaculate Nikon Labophot-2 that sat forgotten in a cabinet for 20 years. Hi radazz, good score on the Nikon, I love how all these quality microscopes come up for sale and there is no competition for them :) Just an unrelated questio...

Australian enthusiast

Hi guys. I'm in Brisbane Australia and a few weeks ago bought an old Olympus ECE-Bi off gumtree at a cheap price. I have been steadily learning the ropes, observing organisms from the local creek, and reconditioning the microscope as I go. The scope was pretty dirty and had a lot of crud on the opti...
