Thanks again, Phil. I think i'm going to jump off the wagon and return my incomplete photo adapter and wait until i can find a complete one! I'm excited to set one up, but i don't like being a pioneer with so little knowledge!
Thanks again to all who contributed!

Re: AO Cycloptic Photo Tube Components
Thanks Phil. I looked again through a makeshift tube; the image looks good to me across the field, but it is inverted and lower magnification than through the eyepiece (15X setting on the magnichanger through the eyepieces is similar to 20X on the magnichanger through there photoport, both with 10x ...

Re: AO Cycloptic Photo Tube Components
Thanks Michael. I'm somewhat confused but it probably all makes sense to someone! I think my confusion relates to the fact that I don't have the second relay lens mounted in the black ring as noted by wporter. The measurements I show below result in a mounted 146 eyepiece being in focus (using my ey...

thanks guys. providencecoins will make a custom one if i can determine measurements.
Phil suggested holding a camera above the open port and finding focus distance. would that be the same as holding the recommended eyepiece?

Re: AO Cycloptic Photo Tube Components
Ream it out to receive a 23mm eyepiece and you are away to the races. Other option is to find the short tube that was factory fitted to the #638 photo tube adapter. You don't see them like you do the 150mm tube made for the trinocular heads because they were an absolutely necessary part of the #638...

The ID of the photo tube at the C-mount is only ~16mm. My eyepiece can neither fit into it or over it.

Re: AO Cycloptic Photo Tube Components
Thanks again Phil and wporter for all your support. I started this by wondering if I should purchase an available AO Cycloptic photo adapter on eBay so I could connect a USB camera I plan to buy sometime. I will continue to learn about this topic and maybe in the future I'll pursue. For now its iPho...

Re: AO Cycloptic Photo Tube Components
Thanks again! The OD of the machined portion of my existing tube (that goes into the camera) is ~20mm so I guess that's a fit. The length of the full diameter tube to the end of the c_mount threads is ~94mm. So, my question is, is there a reasonable chance (guarantee not requested) that a USB type c...

Thanks Guys, a lot for me to absorb! I'll study your posts more carefully. One item i'm trying to find first is the tube. AO Cycloptic Photo Tube Components
Hi all: how do I complete installation of this Cycloptic photo adapter for use with a simple USB-type camera? I know I need an extender tube, not sure what else. Is there an off the shelf, inexpensive solution? Thanks in advance.

my first home-grown crystals
Hi. Inspired by RobBerdan and others' posts, I grew my first crystals today. They are hydrosulfide salts I use to treat my aquarium water. I used a camera polarizer above the illuminator and a small sheet polarizer below the A.O. eyepieces. Photographed with my iPhone. Fun!

AO Magni-Changer problem
Hi. I'm baffled. I just tried out a new (to me) AO Cycloptic that I bought because it has the more "desirable" "M" Magni-Changer. All works fine EXCEPT I can't get image alignment on magnification level "7" (assuming 10x eyepiece). The right eye image is consistently higher and slightly left. I swap...

AO eyepieces 145 vs 146?
Hi. I see that the CAT 145 was sold for the StereoStar 570 and the CAT 146 for the Cyclops. Does anyone know the practical difference and are both perfectly fine for the Cyclops? Either preferable? Thank you.

Thanks a lot, that's what I suspected. Probably better for me to get a more expensive one that will allow the .5x lens to be included, like this one:

Any other suggestions welcome.

Re: AO Cycloptic Prism/Eyepiece alignment
Thank you, very much PeteM for the thorough and clear response.
My prism was still attached on one side although it could lift on the opposite side. I was almost certain that attaching the loose side would result in perfect positioning. But it didn't. Maybe I'm at step 8.
Thanks again.

AO Cycloptic Prism/Eyepiece alignment
Hi all, I picked up a damaged Cycloptic scope when I purchased a nice table boom stand. The stereo image would not form as the images weren't aligned. One prism was partially loose and was probably hanging out of position. More out of curiosity than necessity (it also has a damaged eyepiece), I adde...

Re: How do the newer AO stereo zoom scopes compare to the classic Cycloptic?
I was able to purchase a set of the 15X Ultra WF eyepieces suggested by apochronaut on eBay. I'm super impressed with the image clarity, brightness and field of view. So cool to own optics that are part of our cold war history! Thanks again.
