Very nice! How do you take so many pictures and increment the focus? Is it automated or manual? Thank you.

Re: AO Triocular vs Beam Splitter

Interesting and thanks Phil. One last question on the nosepieces. I connected a 110 nosepiece to a model 10 scope and while it seemed to fit, it didn't properly align with the field diaphragm (too far off to center it). And the single bolt I loosened didn't travel in as far as it did on the native n...

Re: AO Triocular vs Beam Splitter

Hi all, I was also interested in Zuul's question: "On a loosely related note, I was wondering about tube lens compatibility. If a 410 Trinocular head popped up, how far off is the correction when used with the older 34mm objectives?"

Anybody know? Thanks.

Welcome kville79! and also to BramHuntingNematodes: I've had great luck purchasing excellent quality / reasonably priced thin sections from ebay seller: https://www.ebay.com/usr/geosecrob shipping to the US has been fine. He only lists items occasionally and they tend to sell out quickly; follow / c...

Hi krame, thanks and welcome.

1) no, just take a pic, shift focus a bit and take another until top to base of subject is in focus. I use helicon focus for stacking.

2) he was deceased; I only work with insects I have found dead by natural causes.

3) say cheese!

Interesting, I'm still confused about the difference between these 2 adapters. I also purchased the $450 one and then returned it because I thought it was (almost?) identical to the less expensive one. Interested what others think. Thanks for the post and comparison!

Re: Moth and swiss chard seeds

Thanks for the nice comments here. Don: yes, its a classic B&L StereoZoom 7, with magnification 1 to 7X (10-70X with 10X eyepieces). I use an inexpensive camera adapter to connect my Canon M50 which seems to be equivalent to ~20X (or so) eyepieces. Considering that I'd estimate that the magnificatio...

Hi. I believe these darkfield condensers "need a lot of light" to perform well. Does this ring light (sitting beneath) match with the condenser to provide good darkfield results? Thanks!

Re: Question on Leitz objectives

Thanks all. I decided to return the 2.5x objective. I had the second problem that one of the centering screws on my unused opening seemed to be stripped so I couldn't properly center it. No big deal as I still have 4 good properly centered objectives with a good range. I also purchased lower power /...

Question on Leitz objectives

Hi all. I purchased this 2.5x lens to add to my Leitz Dialuz POL to provide a wider field of view for scanning my slides. My current 4 Leitz Wetzlar Objectives are: 3.5/0.10 P 170/- --- 10/0.25 P 170/- --- 25/0.50 170/0.17 --- 50/0.85 P 170/0.17 Unfortunately the new 2.5x is very non parafocal with ...

Olivine crystal under POL

Hi all, I'm enjoying my "new" Leitz Dialuz POL, circa 1960. I bought some thin sections from a gentleman in the UK, very nice quality. This is a volcanic rock from Germany with lots of glass (dark in polarized light) and some nice Olivine crystals. Cheers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu_9lvNid8g

Hi. Just a comment regarding "the light will not work (it was supposed to and seller does not accept returns)". ebay has policies to protect the buyer against inaccurate listings. You can attempt to work out a fair resolution with the seller or ask ebay to step in and arbitrate.

I figured out that the lower "arm" engages and focuses the Bertrand lens. The upper dial engages a "pinhole diaphragm". Still working to figure it all out. Cheers!

My "new" Leitz Laborlux(?) POL circa 1960, 2 questions

Hi all, I bought this very nice scope to expand my hobby into petrography. I just set it up and centered the objectives and all is good so far! Manufacturer of this petrographic scope?

Hi all, I just purchased this petrographic scope on eBay. Seems to have a quality feel although it is certainly a basic model. It resembles the Spencers of the 1940's I've seen online. There is no trademark or model # on the scope. Anyone know the likely origin? Unbranded Spencer? Generic knock-off?...
