Plastic Objective Canisters

Hello, all. I have a bushel of plastic objective canisters for sale. These have the RMS thread in the cap and are suitable for the 45mm objective length. Price is $2.00 each with a minimum of ten canisters. Also, $5.00 postage to the US. If you would like to have an objective, let me know. All the b...

Re: Which AO microscope with

There is certainly a great deal of good, sound advice from folks who actually have experience with that of which they speak in this discussion. In order of occurrence of problems in design, construction, or serviceability I would rate the Series 10/20 first, the 410/420 second, and the 110/120 third...

Re: SWIFT SRL Microscopes

The Swift SRL ( Swift Research Line) was a current model during the 1970s and into the early 80's. It was the best model the Swift company imported and was intended for the veterinary and medical clinic model. There were quite a few variations in the model as they evolved as new lots were manufactur...

Re: Downsizing... Liquidating

I have all sorts of current Nikon gear that would work on your scope. I have no telescopes, but for your needs I would think a good spotting scope would be the answer. The problem is your pitiful $200 budget. All the good stuff is a bit more and a good spotting scope would be right at home with the ...

Re: Thoughts about this microscope

If the price for this scope is in the $500 range it's probably as good as you are going to get. I would expect some elements to be a bit on the cheap side and you may see some issues with durability. Very often the weakest aspect of these scopes is the plastic base pan where the illuminator is mount...

Re: Stage height adjustment of Leica DMLS microscope?

There is no user adjustment for the stage height, but it sounds as though the rack needs to be adjusted on the pinion. This is a bit complicated as it is most conveniently done through the ventilation port on the back of the arm. As for the objectives, Leica seems to think that only those specified ...

I have also abandoned a slacking Nikon S stage with ball bearings, as I could not get it back to how it was before. Some balls came out and it was hard for me to put everything back and align them.
Send me your stage.

Re: Advice Needed - how to re-lubricate my 'scope's stage X-Y controls

If there is just a tiny bit of play in the movement it is probably the fit between the rack and pinion. This is an easy fix if there is no other issue with the lubricant of the pinion shafts. Loosen the two screws holding the rack and gently press it against the pinion. This is a critical fit and al...

Re: Anyone have an Amscope PCT 120 phase contrast condenser?

Although unusual, it is possible to have the same annuli working for two different objectives. Swift, from the Japanese mfg. sources, had a phase set where the phase mask was the same for the 10X and 40X objectives. I cannot explain the physics, but the system works well enough to be used successful...

That's a detail I completely overlooked, or never considered. I have a couple of Olympus KHC models that are fully serviced and in good condition that may be of interest. Most of my triocular models are a little on the higher side so will not fit the budget constraints.

These are "fun fotos". I like the foto with the smallest droplets/holes. I can almost feel my brain shifting as the perception of the image changes. I can look at it for a moment and with a blink change the orientation... It's the most fun I've had in weeks.

Re: Fossil Diatoms of Kamyshlov Russia

At first glance I'd have thought that your microscope resolution was exceeding your camera resolution, but after looking at the specs of your camera I'm not sure that's the case. So, I guess I'm not of much assistance.

Re: New purchase question

That's a reasonably nice microscope and should serve you well. This microscope was a B&L purchase from Olympus of their discontinued KHC (with minor modifications). The scope was called the Galen by B&L and was available in bright field and phase contrast, but did not have a ton of accessories. It w...

Here is a modification I made on a similar stage. This one is from an Orthoplan. The slide holder was salvaged from a generic Chinese microscope and within its limitations it works very well.

Re: Stage has me befuddled

I don't think the specimen holder is designed for a slide. The geometry of the spring finger is 90 degrees off. I think it is designed for a special configuration, but what I think does not necessarily make it so.

Re: Can anyone ID this darkfield condenser please?

Here is the B&L iteration of what you have. There are three phase masks and one darkfield. This component was part of the Galen 2 model which was made by Kyowa and current in the early to mid 1980s. The masks were pre centered in the sliders and did not need to be adjusted. In over 30 years of servi...

I would start by checking the output of the power supply to the bulb. The second, and maybe more likely, is the bulb socket. I have replaced the original equipment with a 3W LED that is much better than the original.
