Re: Removing dovetail from Heine condenser
Having done this myself I can confirm that there are two holes on top of the chrome ring. Use a pin spanner and unscrew that, then the rest of the dovetail slides off.

Re: Some better targets for HMC
Hi Bob, My idea was similar: to print a fine grid system on transparent film to see where the slit should be. Looking at: https://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/techniques/hoffman/hoffmanintro.html The simplest design that could work is simply a single slit, as in figure 4. But I think it would be simp...

Re: Some better targets for HMC
Nice to see this thread! I just picked up a Nikon 40x 0.55 HMC LWD objective with correction collar pretty cheap on eBay. Got three Nikon CF objectives for a grand sum of £75: the 40x HMC objective, a plan achromat 20x 0.40 ph2 phase objective with correction collar, and a simple E achromat 10x 0.25...

Re: Wild M20 Service Manual
Just for the record, I think that I will want to replace the aluminum shims with another material, since aluminum corrodes when in contact with brass. Please note that in principle, any pair of non-identical metals will corrode when in contact with each other and in the presence of moisture. I am n...

Re: Wild M20 Service Manual
In the end, I didn't need to explore the gear market after all. Background: I had a M20 stage lying around that did not work in either direction, I got it as a part of a "for parts" stand that I had bought mostly for the achr.apl. condenser. Forward-backward motion didn't work at all, the gear didn'...

Re: Wild M20 Service Manual
Thanks! I definitely need to read up on the gear terminology, but this looks like a fun project.

Re: Wild M20 Service Manual
Update and ideas. For the M20 I found some 16 tooth ones that seemed from the measurements I was given would have fitted. 4 of them wouldn't have cost much. Especially by comparison with a new stage. Would you mind sharing some links for these gears? I have a spare broken stage that I might wanna f...

Re: Looking for eyepieces: S-PL 8x/18
These eyepieces seem popular for use with astronomical telescopes. I'm guessing that that is your intended application?

Wanted: Wild HU photo tube for Wild M20.
Hello! First time poster from Sweden. Been lurking here for quite some time, but haven't posted before. Over the last year or so, I've been building up a 'frankenscope' with bits and pieces that I really like: 1) Wild M20 base (oh, the engineering!) 2) Wild Aplanatic-Achromatic condenser 3) Leitz He...
