The 10x phase annulus of the U-PCD will be incompatible with 10x BH2 objectives.. The others should work.

How to setup phase contrast without a phase telescope:
1) Buy a phase telescope.
2) Set up phase contrast in the traditional way.

Re: XDS-1 / WANG 7002 "Repair"
Apochronaut speaks the truth. I remember trying to get answers from Amscope as to whether or not their objectives provided a fully compensed intermediate image or not. They had no clue what I was asking. So I re-phrased the question, asking if their objectives needed compensating or non-compensating...

Re: Looking for Olympus Photomicro Adapter L
This isn't really relevant to this discussion, but I'll add this little tidbit here, just so that any future searchers have a chance to see it. The Photomicro L Adapter has the proper bore to accept the NFK projection optics, but the U-SPT (UIS version) does not. The bore is bigger in the UIS one, a...

Re: Olympus Polarizing Centerable Microscope Nosepiece PN: U-P4RE
A typical polarizing nosepiece has one fixed, and the remainder centerable. The fixed one is the "reference", and the remainder are adjusted to match the fixed reference.

The WHK15 eyepieces will sit properly in the recess. Works well for afocal shooting.

Thanks for the replies. For those curious, Olympus used a similar device to look into the light inlet port of the BHS scope, to collimate the substage lighting and field diaphragm.

See the PDFs in this folder. They apply to the BH2. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1M-393MVEJgEnoeyDOt_yWt9o8SWUOcys I use mineral spirits and acetone for the metal parts. Re: CHA Tension Adjustment
Very possibly your scope should have a complete teardown. But then again, how many 30 plus year old scopes don't? As you can see in the Part 2 video, when I removed the tension adjustment knob, the grease inside was nearly solid. Yours is no doubt the same, and that's why you can"t turn it. There is...

Those old CH scopes have a very similar coaxial focus mechanism to the Olympus BH2 scopes. I recently put a few videos on YouTube (search for my name, and you should find them). If you watch part 2 in the series, you will see why your tension knob was so hard to turn! You will also want it cleaned a...

The issue with the diopter ring running out of range on the left side could be due to an improper tube length on the right side. That does look like a nice scope! The worn gear can be purchased third party in the US.

Re: Amscope 20x eyepieces....decent??
Amscope eyepieces of any magnification are a poor choice for your BH2. The Olymous LB objectives on the BH2 provide an unfinished intermediate image, and rely on matching Olympus WK, WHK, or SWHK eyepieces to provide a fully corrected image for viewing. Now, as for 20x eyepieces, you're now getting ...

An average price for an nfk2.5 is $135 or so. An average price for the 1.67 is $600. Too high? That's the market price.

Re: Kohler Trouble
The BHS has a tremendous amount of light. Your options for not obliterating your retinas are: 1) Turn the intensity down. It will likely be way below the "recommended" setting. That setting is (I believe) only appropriate with a neutral density filter in the system. 2) Add a neutral density filter i...

Re: S Plan 40x on BH-2 BHS Light field/Dark field
Thomas,
What are you using to obtain darkfield? A simple patch stop, and likely even a dedicated dry darkfield condenser, will not give optimal results at 40x. A wet (oiled) darkfield condenser should work well.

If the focus is stiff, and especially if it has noticeable hysteresis, then the grease is thickened and the scope needs service. This folder contains two PDFs that describe how to fix the focus mechanism:

To get the true benefit of a 100x oil immersion lens of NA 1.25, you will need to oil the condenser to the slide, as well as the objective.

Olympus WK and WHK eyepieces provide compensation for residual chromatic aberration (color fringing) of the Olympus LB objectives. Without these eyepieces, LB objectives will create noticeable lateral chromatic aberration. These eyepieces are a poor match for Nikon and Zeiss optics. You should go wi...
