Why would you need such a precise pipette for rinsing ? And, are you transferring the rinsing fluid or the fluid with the specimens ?

Re: asking the pros for some advice

how much better are units for 1000's of pounds more expensive?
I would encourage you to apply this question to something you are very familiar with.... it could be anything, but if you know the item well you will be able to answer your own question.

Re: Kayak microscope recommendation

Sorry for being out of topic, do you know how many standards there are for mini objectives? I've seen a lot of mini objectives over the years and I would say that there are no standards. None of the pictured objectives are for any of the Swift field scope models. I just picked up the Chinese versio...

Either of those will probably work for what you want to do. At the price it's worth a try. 99% chance they are rms.

Re: Kayak microscope recommendation

Fan, I'd pass on both of those scopes. For not too much more weight and probably not too much more $$ there are better instruments available. Both of these are at the bottom of the list. Re: Maui sand samples anyone

Dale, Although I did not specify, the GPS numbers are quite important. Short of that, the name of the beach property and island will work. My purposes are not of a "microscope" leaning, but more geologic. In addition to my microscope interests I am also a sand man. I would be most appreciative if an...

There you go, Dale, a shot of Wild Turkey, a shot of sand, a shot of Wild Turkey, a shot of sand,..... etc.

Re: Maui sand samples anyone

I was asked to bring back a sample of beach sand for a forum member I am the guilty party. Besides microscopy, I am also involved in a sand collection program for a college and am doing a project with the local library where we are using polariscopes. It's a fun project. I don't have a lot of sand ...

Thanks to all for the encouraging comments. I should mention that the system did not make the grade for the application for which it was being considered. Not to worry though, it does do well in many other areas.

Google Earth Leaf

This image is the product of a bit of fiddling with a mono zoom lens, a 5mp HDMI camera and incident LED illumination. I don't think there is anything remarkable about the image, but it does reveal the limitations of the objective and the illumination. It reminded me of a google map image. I was tes...

Re: Mechanical stage on a sterio microscope

That's a good idea. It certainly broadens the application of the stereo microscope. Just a nit here, but the pod is a 2X. Having a selection of various strength eyepieces gives you a lot of breadth for examining a wide range of specimens. The B&L scope seems to work well with generic eyepieces in ca...

I agree with Mr Apochronaut that there should be some sort of reference guide to help those who are just getting started. Thanks for permission.

I dropped the background out of photo #1 leaving the diatom without a background. Then I pasted image #1 over image #2 as a new layer. I'm betting it took you longer to take the originals than it did for me to do my bit of editing.

Welcome to the group. I'm glad to see that you did some research before purchasing your microscope. Did you order a model with a triocular body so you could attach a camera (conveniently) ? You should also get yourself a simple stereo microscope (my humble opinion). They are not too expensive and re...

Re: Olympus BH-2 Question. Lamp intensity adjuster. Faulty?

Over the life of this model Olympus used a lot of different LED indicator boards and there were differences in the colors of the LEDs. The problem is probably a failing circuit board. Since the instrument is long out of production original replacement parts are no longer available, but there are aft...

Re: How to detach Olympus U-PMTVC from TR-30?

The two screws on the camera adapter hold it to the dovetail of the triocular body. I think it's a 2mm allen wrench that will work.
