Beautiful pictures of a cute subject!
Water bears are just the best little critters imo.

Re: Surplus find: Headless Zeiss T-UL with planapo objectives
Very nice find. I imagine even with some delamination they'd still be pretty good, though getting the thing up and running could be expensive as the Zeiss head and eyepieces would cost a fair amount. I think your AO uses infinity optics so not easily adapted either. Basically all is lost, and you ma...

Re: Lomo lumin....
Thanks, at least now I know what lumin means :D Fan, I managed to get them purely by luck. They are all from different sellers, the 40x apo went for $13 after 5 bids, I had an upper price of $35 on it and was not expecting to win. The Jena 10x ph had an opening bid of $10 and nobody else bid. The 40...

Re: how to increase depth of field without changing aperture
Thread gravedigger here, One of the things I read referring to misunderstanding the resolution of objectives is that the true NA is only achievable with lighting such as extreme oblique, darkfield or COL. The reason as I understand it is that the initial lens NA is measured using a anaxial light sou...

Lomo lumin....
Hi gang, I just went on a mini spending spree (all $65 worth) and ordered 3 objectives, a lomo 40 .95 apo, a Zeiss Jena 10 .30 ph and a lomo 40 .65 lumin phase. My question is about 'lumin', what exactly does the lumin part mean? I've seen numerous lomo objectives listed as either lumin, luminescent...

Re: Seeking advice on glueing the 45 deg mirror under the field aperture back in place (Zeiss)
One other thing with superglue, it can frost enclosed surfaces as it dries, ruining the mirror, lenses and iris. The cork might be for expansion with temperature changes and the 'glue' might well be bitumen. Post a picture of the parts, it'll be easier to advise.

Re: flickering problems, how do you deal with it?
As others mentioned, if it's an LED, it'll be it's power supply/dimmer circuit. Normally when running LED's I use a Buckpuck with dimmer from led supply https://www.ledsupply.com/led-drivers/buckpuck-dc-led-drivers They cost about $16 with all the options and eliminate flickering completely. I don't...

I imagine the Metallux 2 and the Ortholux 2 are broadly similar so here's a .pdf I found that may help.

Thanks guys!
Apart from the head being a different color it looks like they were made for each other.

Re: My Zeiss Microscopes
I think the collective noun is a 'feast' of microscopes! Can see how one WL did not seem to be enough ;) Could you provide closeup photos and details on the flash setup on the IM35? Hah, I was going to ask about that but got so distracted as I went down the 'feast' of microscopes I totally forgot!

My Zeiss hybrid AxioStandard
I had a beat up Standard with broken stage, condenser and so-on and saw an Axiostar base on ebay and decided it was time for an upgrade. It's now an AxioStandard 160mm finite hybrid. A modest machine but it's all mine!

Re: Illumination technique comparison using the same Closterium
Very nice.
I only recently acquired a phase objective and I have to admit I'm having way more fun with it than I thought I would. Anyone who has yet to try phase, I highly recommend it. Gives a whole new insight.

Re: Looking for first microscope
Fun and interesting thread and congrats on getting a great microscope. When you have some free time it's worth watching "Understanding the Light Microscope by Peter Evennett" https://youtu.be/60_jgZtyR6U It covers a lot of the questions you have in a very well presented way, giving lots of informati...
