Re: Used Zeiss Microscope
BTW, what exactly does an Optivar do? https://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artjun12/fs-optovar.html I also found this Item #234063962876. The more of the things that you want that are in place on a microscope when you buy it the more economical they turn out. So try and get one with a Trinocular, a...

The damaged stage holder is unfortunate (you will have to see how often they come up for sale)
- just wondering aloud here ... is there a better Leica stand that one could put those nice objectives on?

Glad that turned out alright.
So bent eyetube, broken latch on lamp housing and a new (to you) stage ... does that cover it?
Just to confirm, the stripped thread was on the stage not the stage holder ... right?

The phase kit you linked to plus the t490b on amazon = $800 +
For that amount of money you can get a used microscope with phase from one of the traditional manufacturers that is built to a much higher standard.

Re: Can I swap the head and focusing block on this late Zeiss universal? s
How does the focusing block come off? this plastic knob one has the 2mm travel limit, the metal one I want to swap it with does not have that limit, so that would be nice..... Can you post a photo of your 'alternative focus block? Note that the original one with metal knobs (that the WL, Universal ...

Problem with these long diatoms is getting detail when having to use low magnification / low NA objectives.
I find a good workaround is stitching

Re: MPLANFL, LMPLANFL vs NEOSPLAN, MSPLAN
I use infinity optics on my old Zeiss 160 all the time with great results both a zeiss infinity Neofluar, and the famous APO Nikon 20x. I use them for two reasons, one because I have them and two because they put up a lot better image than the Vintage Zeiss Neofluars that they the replaced. Also Vi...

Looked it up out of interest. This is from the Zeiss Primostar 3, 25 page brochure
500/200 = 2.5µm by my calculation, so each division would be 5µm

Good idea about lifting eyepiece..Will try that tomorrow. The only KPL eyepieces I have are x10 and project only a tiny area of view onto camera sensor. I find that unless one is trying to photograph large diameter microtome cut plant cross sections for example, then there is no point in going to g...

Last night I had a quick go and fairly easily managed to then focus the 100x on a slide and got what seemed like a good view. Might want to take that as the 100x is ok and negotiate accordingly. Seems a new stand is called for. Article on how to check for delamination just in case: https://www.micr...

. This morning I just can't get the 100x to focus at all. It's nowhere near parfocal with 10, 20 or 40x which are all fairly parfocal with each other. Make sure that the slide is not upside down i.e. cover slip on the bottom. Easy to do - I think most of us have done it at one time. Also you may wan...

Re: Help with Leica DMLB
When I add oil and put the 100x into position the objective is too high and the stage won't go any higher. Firstly, will there be a 'stop' somewhere stopping the stage going higher, or have I perhaps run out of travel? Secondly, is it weird that the 100x is so far from being parfocal with the other...

The seller has replied to say I can return it or get a partial refund, although no sum was mentioned. See if someone here can give you an idea of what the objectives are worth - you will need that info to gauge whether the refund is acceptable. Damage to eyepiece tube might have been due to shippin...

Re: Best specimens for testing DIC?
Small oil droplets can be a really good test subject that really reveals if you are getting proper DIC. That seems very useful for those setting up DIC for the first time or experimenting with alternative ways to achieve DIC. Have you by any chance some before and after images - I am sure they will...

Contact seller, list observable problems (emphasize the scotch tape fix) show photos and either return it or get sufficient money back to make the objectives very economical. Then look for another frame.
