I think you are absolutely correct. It sounds like a sieve set is on the Christmas list. It's a good thing I know that Santa fellow personally.

Re: Bausch & Lomb once produced a magazine. 1961
The little publication is a great read. Here is a little quiz for those who have not had the opportunity to see the insides of the B&L ST microscope. How does the fine focus work ? If you know, don't spoil the guessing (at least for a couple of days). lorez This is an edited afterthought. In a week,...

Re: Finding Diatoms
How big were the sand particles in your lake sample Whoa ! It's getting too complicated. I am just a novice at the sand collecting, but am slowly adding to my small collection. I do not, at the moment, have a sieve with which to measure grain sizes, but am aware of the variations within samples fro...

Re: Finding Diatoms
Hello all, I certainly did not mean to imply that there was any difficulty in collecting the sample, it could not have been easier. I walked down the steps to the 'beach' (lake side) and used my cup to scrape the surface of the sand. I was very pleasantly surprised at the variety if found with so li...

Lots of good suggestions, Charlie g. I spent all of 20 seconds at the pond's edge scraping the top of the sand surface into my cup. It was raining and trying to snow.

The NA, which is the crux of resolution, all other things being equal, is higher in the 20X objective. My opinion here, but I'm not a big fan of the 20X eyepieces.

Finding Diatoms
I finally had an opportunity to collect some sand for the diatom project and before I sent it off I took a few minutes to check for a reasonable population. I was pleasantly surprised. In a single drop of water I found at least a dozen different types. I drew the water off the top of the sand sample...

Re: Lens from different brand
The objectives on your scope are DIN 45mm, so anything of that category could work. If I were you I would spend my time getting familiar with your scope and finding out what it is capable of as it is configured. I don't recommend putting more expensive accessories on the introductory model stands, b...

Re: Color filters
is it useful to have many different filters? If so what color should I buy? I think color filters are a matter of preference with a little bit of attention to what you are trying to accomplish. Most of the Chinese microscopes are equipped with the green filter (and there is quite a bit of variety a...

Re: Are there any tools/techniques that automate stacking AND stitching together?
This is a greatly reduced image that is also a product of the automatic stitching process which is also called tiling. The original was 344MB and the posted image is 165kb. When projected on the wall the image was dramatic. Again, there was some significant manipulation of the background, but no man...

resized2-20X-Lupin-copy_edited-1.jpg This image was an initial test of a software package that is under development and not yet available. The stem section was about 8mm in diameter. Re: Permanent analyzer placement in Nikon Eclipse
Not wanting to frequently remove the head on my E600 to place an analyzer filter for polarization lighting, can I leave it there? I know it should be oriented front to back, but what affect would it have on BF, DF, and phase ? There is a recessed space just below the trinocular body that will recei...

Re: AmScope T690C-PCT200-PL sufficient for spirochaete viewing?
I am surprised at the lack of direct responses to what scope, or if this one, will be fine. There are probably not too many in this group who have had a chance to evaluate the scope (other than me) so you shouldn't be too surprised that the response to your original question has not gotten much tra...

I have an Olympus CH2 with a phase set including 10,40, and 100X objectives that is much better than the scope you are looking at.If anybody knows of better performance for the price, feel free to chime in.

Re: AmScope T690C-PCT200-PL sufficient for spirochaete viewing?
Hello, Please be careful with the enticements of the AmScope folks. 1600X and 2400X are somewhat of a gimmick that often captures the imagination of the beginner. The bacteria you would like to look at are a challenge and the key to seeing them is light control and resolution. They can be seen with ...

It sounds as though your stage will accept a circular slide holder. I know that Nikon, et.al. have them, but have never seen one for a Swift. Sorry about the misinformation.

Re: newbie ??? re: Swift Collegiate 400
I'll try to answer a couple of your questions. 1. I have had paint matched at the paint store, but you are limited to their stock types. This is not a bad thing if the paint is being used to touch-up minor scratches, etc. 2. The objectives are JIS with RMS threads. 3. There are three holes, in somew...

Re: Fixing Zeiss 100 Illuminator Concave mirror focus
Have you checked inside the lamp house to determine that there is a mirror ? I have seen a few that have no reflecting mirror and the single image is all that you get. A single filament image does not fill the field as well, but does work. Once you have solved the lamp filament issue you can begin t...

Re: Fixing Zeiss 100 Illuminator Concave mirror focus
I think you are describing two different problems, which although related are adjusted independently. If you follow the directions in the manual you should be able to adjust the mirror so that the two filament images are visible. The screws for the adjustments are on the back side of the lamp house ...

I'm sorry I don't have any caps for the E600. Maybe I can find some at a reasonable $$. I have boxes of the RMS size as well as the objective canisters. I keep all my Nikon spaces filled with objectives.
