Re: Would this microscope on ebay be good for a beginner?

I think I will be getting a Trinocular then as photography is going to be quite important for me. I don’t think the trinocular apex is in stock, the Amscope T490B seems to be the cheapest I can find that ships from the UK at £305, it’s fulfilled by Amazon but sold by Amscope. https://www.amazon.co....

Thanks. Not only do I have a name, I have a rough date, 1971/1972 for its release.

apochronaut wrote:Correct. AO Biostar is much different. The focusing mechanism on that is unique to Austrian made Reicherts. Also found on the Neovar. This is most likely a Biovert.
Yes, thank you very much, MichaelG and Apochronaut, that is it!

MicroBob wrote:Reichert went together with American Optical (AO). Your scope looks similar to an AO BioStar.
I don’t think so. It has an odd focusing mechanism. You fine focus by rocking the focus knobs back and forth.

Re: Can anyone identify this model?

MicroBob wrote:The binocular head looks like Reichert. It may be the wrong head for the microscope though. Is there a name on the underside, perhaps in the cast?
It says: Reichert Austria and then a serial number in the 500000 range.

Can anyone identify this model?

I bought this inverted microscope years ago off ebay. It weighs a lot and it has good optics but other than that, I have no information. If anyone recognizes it I would appreciate even a model name or number. I have checked the internet and found nothing similar.

Thanks,
Aslan

Very effective with low and medium power objectives: Highly recommended.

Thanks, it definitely looks interesting.

Re: Leitz SM microscope and Reichert Inverted microscope

The multiple LEDs might show in the image. A diffuser can be made from a CD cover, ground with emery paper on one ot two sides. Diffusion effect is increased with increasing distance between LEDs and diffuser. I replaced the cheap headlamp with a much more expensive one with a single high brightnes...

Re: Leitz SM microscope and Reichert Inverted microscope

Nice! Is that LED on the inverted microscope? Yes, it is a cheap LED headlamp from a dollar store. I have an incandescent bulb for it but the power supply for it has been stolen (Honestly, who steals a microscope power supply!). I found the headlamp works fine but I am in the process of replacing i...

Leitz SM microscope and Reichert Inverted microscope

Hello everyone. Here are a couple of pictures of my microscopes. The first one is a Reichert inverted microscope for which I have absolutely no information so if anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate hearing it. The second one is my circa 1964 SM microscope that I bought at the Unive...

Hello from Toronto

Hello all. My name is Tom and I am a biology teacher from Toronto. I use a Reichert inverted microscope and a mid-60s SM microscope for demonstrations in my class. My interests tend to algae and pond life. I am also an amateur astronomer and photographer so I guess I love all things optical.

Re: Leitz SM Medical Microscope

Thank you. I was actually thinking of the 38 mm to 23 mm adapters that go in the top of the trinocular head for attaching other eyepieces and cameras. There are several on eBay right now, it's called a MIKAS microscope adapter or just search for "Leitz microscope adapter". It's easy to adapt to any ...

Re: Leitz SM Medical Microscope

I love my SM microscope. I picked up in 1987 when the University of Toronto sold off a bunch of them. I use it in my classroom for demonstrations and have got quite good and using my iPhone to wirelessly project what is on the slide. But I only have the monocular head. I did, just recently, picked u...
