HMC is designed to cancel out birefringence enabling observation through plastic petri dishes. Adding another polarizer as an analyzer forces the birefringence resulting a nice colorful image. I like to grow my crystals on cover slips as well.

Tried heating them, but I invariably burn them.

Also tried in a vacuum, but got almost no reaction in 24 hours.

Crystallography is one of my favorite aspects of our wonderful hobby. I need to do more.

I have to agree with all of the above mentioned advantages with an inverted.
Mine was one of those surprise offers I couldn’t refuse, and I’d never considered one before that.
The only thing I would not try with one is oil immersion. I use the upright microscope for that exclusively.

I use photoimage.org to store these photos. Recently they changed the suffix to photoimage.cc
My old posts that just show ‘image’ where the photo was had to be edited to change .org to .cc in order to work correctly.

Got most of mine fixed now, but it was a chore.
