Re: Hello from Bloomington, IN, USA - home brewer -
...it is likely of little overall benefit since it doesn't really change what you are doing. I'm doing it for fun, get rough yeast counts, and maybe ID whether yeast or bacteria, etc. Well there ya go! I'm a pretty decent chef (no really, even have some training), and used my scope to have a closer...

Re: binocular versus monocular and lighting
Regarding kohler lighting; I wonder if an AO-735 or AO orth-illuminator would be better. Being a true novice it strikes me that, since the 735 is adjustable and aims at the mirror, it might be more useful when tilting the head. It appears the ortho illuminator requires the head and light to be para...

Re: Hello from Bloomington, IN, USA - home brewer -
Yeah, I saw what ya did there... I understand, and have great respect for "homebrew" strategies that get one up and running right this minute. Been there, done that. Although I've been using microscopes on and off since I was a kid (soon to turn 56 now), I never had any training, or really lea...

On the other hand, a small bottle of Cargill Type A immersion oil cost $3.85, plus S&H (which probably makes it the better part of a 15 dollar bill), and looks pretty cool sitting there on the shelf, almost as if you know what you're doing, lol. http://www.cargille.com/immeroil.shtml I had a friend ...

Re: AO spencer
Henry, I think it's a particularly nice 'scope you have there, what we AO/Spencer enthusiasts like to call a "black beauty". I don't own one myself, but do have its predecessor, the Spencer Model 13. When I first got it a few years ago, I jumped on the internet seeking knowledge much as you are doin...

Re: Wives and OUR Microscopes
Funny how some folks find it difficult, even impossible, to look through a binocular microscope with both eyes. But I've seen it too. Heck, they breathe a sigh of relief when you tell 'em it's perfectly okay to look through just one eyepiece like a telescope... But here's one for you: can you do the...

Re: Olympus BX45
Hi Phil! Funny you should bring up the subject of dark field condensers for the 120, a couple internet buddies and I have been discussing the very thing for the past week or two. I have a dark field condenser for my older Spencer 160TL stuff, so know just how wonderful the views are with dedicated b...

Olympus BX45
Here's a look at a stray Olympus BX45 that followed me home a few months ago. I normally buy and use American Optical/Spencer stuff because it's affordable and pretty darn decent mechanically and optically. But I got a deal I couldn't pass up on the big OLY. The BX45 beats my work horse AO Series 12...

houstontx - howdy neighbor, I'm down in League City. I'd like to ask about where you got your scope, and who you're thinking about taking it to for service. I have a couple Oly's, latest acquisition a nice little BX45. Open forum probably not best for this kind of local discussion, my email addy is ...

Re: AO Spencer 13 Research
Greetings! First post on this forum. Charles, your threads have caused me to register and join in; not only is your collection just absolutely wonderful, but I see a "familiar face" here too, I believe. Hi, Phil!
