Re: Camera sensor size to see bigger F.O.V.
That'd be asking for a 37mm field number from your objective (13mm sensor diagonal * 1/0.35). The adapter may not even project an image big enough to cover a sensor that size. There's a chance your objective will cover it though, some Olympus objectives can cover full frame sensors with direct proje...

Re: Advices to improve my pictures
Great job! I would not mess with cleaning, your photos aren't showing major signs of lowered contrast which is what you'd expect from dirty elements. I'd say your equipment is dialled in well enough--now the fun bit, finding subjects and fine tuning your lighting and editing skills.

Re: What is the diference beetween a Splan Apo and Neo Splan NIC??
The neo splans are meant for looking at opaque subjects with nothing transparent on top of them. That matters less at lower magnifications, but at higher magnifications you will get bad results looking at pond life. In terms of optical quality, when set up with the correct optics (an extra lens is n...

Re: Nikon SMZ-U: How to clean Zoom Body
You have to pull the rubber caps off the knobs, loosen the set screw this reveals, removd the knobs and then you can remove the bolts holding the shell on. The shell is split down the middle and each half can be slipped off with the knobs and bolts removed. The zoom body has teo independent light pa...

Re: Dichromatic Illumination?
Why use PWM rather than a constant current driver? So I can alter the degree of chromicity between the two coloured LEDs; offering a variable colour selection between the two without altering the degree of required illumination. I'd think you could do the same with constant current since they can v...

The 500 is neat. I got one cheap but it's so bulky and specific that I have not actually set it up. The higher mag objectives are also very short wd.

Re: seeing double images
Sometimes you get a slightly different field of view in each eyepiece l, which naturally doesn't line up. In others the fov might be the same in each and everything theoretically fine but converging them is still difficult or uncomfortable. Don't ask me why but this will likely vary from head to hea...

Yes. That type of knurling is an especially common touch on metallurgical objectives.
The -C means it requires compensating optics (tube lens/eyepieces not sure which), unlike -A marked objectives.

If you want best performance these aren't the best approach. You'll need to use a single die emitter on a heat sink positioned about where the halogen filament was. It is a lot more involved though.

That's a hoffman modulation contrast condenser, not DIC. Not sure how popular they are.

I have one of the heads with the gigantic looking eyetubes. Very odd design, and unfortunately thoroughly molded. Iirc there are a lot of prisms in that head, I'll have to pull it off the shelf and have a look.

None of these are b&l. The recon system did have special aux lenses but they are all branded and don't look like this. The special 2x has a long snoot, presumably to make it parfocal since it had an objective slider.

Re: Should I avoid vintage Leitz Scopes?
What brands beside of Nikon are on the list? Olympus (the slight 180 vs 200mm difference isn't a big deal), Mitutoyo and the fleet of clones and knockoffs made by other companies, plus specialty objectives like those by Thorlabs or Optem. I have used all of these options on my Nikon scope at one po...

Re: SW380T light issue X40 trinocular tube
Good to isolate it to the trinocular tube. You need to look down the tube without the eyepiece to see where the flare is coming from. Non-image-forming light is being reflected from outside the field back into your viewing area.

Re: Should I avoid vintage Leitz Scopes?
Microscope objectives from different brand are not interchangeable in general. Finite ones need matching correction eye-pieces and infinite ones need matching correction tube lenses. You never get the best quality by mixing brands. Only some brands of infinity corrected lenses need matching tube le...

It certainly looks like flare. Have tou taken out your camera and looked down the camera tube with your eye? If you see circular reflections around the image it's probably the aource of your issue.

Re: Should I avoid vintage Leitz Scopes?
No brands from the finite era are fully interchangeable. Unless you're doing something weird or specific you ahouldn't have too much trouble filling a nosepiece with objectives that are the correct type or probably close enough.

Re: Epistar microscopes
Halogen bulbs should still be cheap if sourced right but LED replacements are doable. I use a CREE x-pl led in my epi illuminator and it's worked great for me. But it will take some careful DIYing, there aren't great drop in replacements.

Re: Olympus S plan vs S plan APO for DIC
If you are serious about wanting DIC it's important to be flexible. Rather than building a particular system and hoping you find the right DIC set you will probably have a lot more luck (and probably spend a lot less) casting a wider net and finding a dic system, any dic system, to build the rest ar...
