Re: Euromex or Motic?

One big difference is that Euromex is a broker and Motic is a manufacturer. Motic were originally in Hong Kong, so were outside of the maelstrom of Chinese industrial organization but they have no doubt had to capitulate to the requirements of the Chinese planned economy, where beaurocracy often det...

Re: AO/Reichert One-Fifty vs. Reichert-Jung Series 150 differences and head compatibility

Does the trinoc produce a well corrected image on the 410? (through one eypiece ... I know you said there was some issue there) If so, I think that answered the question. If the 150 were from an educational venue (likely) they may have been ordered that way simply to hit their budget. Students can ...

Re: AO/Reichert One-Fifty vs. Reichert-Jung Series 150 differences and head compatibility

I don't have a lot of experience with the 150 . I have tended to sidestep them in favour of the more professional stands. The 150 has a limited illumination system and condenser but it still could be equipped with a 4 objective phase system, so it must have been o.k. The nice thing about them is tha...

Re: AO/Reichert One-Fifty vs. Reichert-Jung Series 150 differences and head compatibility

The depression below the dovetail is designed to take an extension on the head of the original 150/160, that carries the telan lens. I don't know the Reichert-Jung version of that scope well but I see threads down in that well. Has the telan lens been removed from the head on those and installed abo...

Re: Bausch & Lomb Balplan Camera Tube

Your example above looks like an older version of the camera adapter. There is supposed to be à lens in the top of that tube. Is there any evidence of it having been removed? In literature, they do make reference to " the camera lens". The knob with markings from 0 to 25, on other models starts at 3...

There is a lens. I do have an old polaroid system somewhere. I think it is in an intermediate tube attached to the camera back. I will have to find it.

Re: Breaking the baffling B & L Balplan buffalo.

What is the overall focal lebgth of the lens? It might be interesting to experiment with a normal achromat to get a sense of how vital corrections are--not volunteering to do it myself though, not right now anyway. It's the back lens group of all of the objectives, applies 5X magnification to them ...

Re: Breaking the baffling B & L Balplan buffalo.

It is item 21 but in figure 2 of the 481665 patent. The specifications are from line 30 on page 4 to the middle of page 5. I don't think the doublet would involve a crown glass element. Both n's are high, with fairly low abbe #'s. According to charts, the double convex element would be something lik...

Re: A.O. bits wanted

They changed the #'s on the annuli when they built a new series but the phase objective #'s did not change. A phase objective made in 1985 would work as well on a microscope made in 1965 and visa versa. The annuli are the same, except the very early ones for the 160mm systems. The dark plan achros a...

Re: A.O. bits wanted

With respect to the addition of a phase contrast system to a series 100 scope. The dovetail situation stays the same as detailed above so I don't really think the possibility to utilize an older #1242 phase condenser exists. The required phase condenser housing is a #1205 . If you could find a derel...

Re: Breaking the baffling B & L Balplan buffalo.

Yes. If you follow through the citations and references, there were a whole slew of patents by Bausch & Lomb and American Optical obviated by the idea of separating the objective section of the microscope from the ocular section. Microscopes inherently had previously forced the operator to hover ove...

Re: A.O. bits wanted

The dovetail on the series 10/20 standard 214F or the 218F DF condensers are machined on a brushed chrome collar. The collar is fiitted over the cylindrical body of the condenser and fixed with one screw. One could machine a new dovetail to match the series100 . The original dovetail includes a rath...

Re: A.O. bits wanted

AO changed the condenser dovetail with the introduction of the series 100 microscopes. They had used the same dovetail for 3 series and the centering mechanisms were part of the diaphragm body, not the yoke. With the series 100 they went to only aspheric and achromat condensers, which due to the ill...

Re: B&L Phase Contrast Condenser Sliders

The negative lens below the annuli, is not something that would normally be there, if it was not a phase condenser. It is a 2 lens abbe, possibly aspheric, or should I say likely. The third lens is something I also have seen on the AO series 10 phase set up. The 10 does not have a true Koehler illum...

Re: B&L Phase Contrast Condenser Sliders

The Balplan phase condenser is marked abbe 1.25 N.A. Unlike the other Balplan condensers, which require that you remove the dovetail and enter the condenser from below, this one is split and the top lens threads off. The optics are different than the abbe/aplanat 1.25. The top lens is wider; 16mm. T...

Re: Questions and Parent’s guide to used microscopes?

20 or 25x eyepieces are included in cheaper microscope packages as a lure, in order to give the impression that the microscope has fantastic magnifying power. They can be used with certain objectives but those objectives cost many times the price of your entire microscope. With improper use, meaning...

Re: B&L Phase Contrast Condenser Sliders

Those insert annuli are for the L.W.D. phase system. It does use the standard phase objectives, so it is probably only medium working distance. I have the Balplan phase system in it's entirety. It is a good system. I am not sure what other condenser would duplicate the focal point of that phase cond...

Re: Flat Field Dynazoom Operational

I think that 80X might be a 24mm thread, like the 80X flat field fluorite I have. The adapter adds some length but I have used mine on a Balplan and it works. The 50X oil planfluorite has a white ring. Probably the 50X planachromat did too.

Nothing wrong with that. At only .65 too. According to the catalogues, they made a 50X .80 planachromat too but I have never seen one, just a 50X .80 oil planfluorite, which I have never seen in a catalogue.

Re: B&K Balplan

Come to think of it it's really curious the microzoom didn't have an epi df option. Between that and DIC it's weird that the balplan's industrial big brother missed out on two such nice and seemingly relevant features. Maybe it had a pretty narrow set of requirements as a baseline wafer inspector, ...

Re: B&K Balplan

OK, mystery solved. 1) The 'epi-nosepiece' I have, with the clear annular ring around the common telescope lens, is indeed for epi-darkfield; i.e., the ring is not for general epi-illumination, but rather only for darkfield illumination. The light does pass down through the BF/DF objectives in the ...
