Re: Your opinion

John B., could I ask, what exactly is the "focussing optics" bit in the photos of your set up?
Many thanks, and merry Christmas, from another John B.

Re: Hello from a COMPLETE NEWB

Welcome! For insects, proceedures and equipment, try Andrew Chick: Insect Microscopy,ISBN 978 78500 201 4,£12 -£16, from Amazon UK. Fleas are good to start with, and make good pictures. Also, try searching for Freshwater Microscopy (or Microscopist), from Blurb (sorry, I have forgotten the author), ...

Photo background removal

A little while ago there was a thread about removal of backgrounds in photos. I have lost the reference; can anyone remember and/or post a link to this? Will it work with win7?
Many thanks, John

Re: Insect Microscopy:

Insect microscopy is currently available on UK Amazon, paperback, from £8 to £16 (roughly) plus £3 postage. I haven't seen it, but am hoping that Santa Claus might have.
Best wishes John

Re: Halo ring lights for phase, dark field etc.

I've been reading an article by David Walker (micscape magazine, August 2016) on the use of halo ring led lights for phase, dark field and rheinberg on "upright" microscopes. Does anyone on the forum any experience of this?

Re Musings on the forum content

I visit the forum regularly, to marvel at the amazing expertise displayed, and the advice freely given. Sadly, I fear that my efforts fall short of those standards. How can I improve what I do? How do they do it? I conclude that it is not from an array of shiny new equipment, with dic, pol, Uncle To...

Re: Questions about OMAX USB Microscope camera Quality!

I also downloaded this software (which sounds great) without any problem but it won't run on my laptop. I'm running win 7 with avg antivirus. This is said to be for Windows; perhaps it won't run on win 7 (or later?) Has anyone else tried this? If anyone else has got it working I'll try again. Many t...

This is a masrteclass in the botany of a little-studied group of plants. I just wonder how many can appreciate the skill and expertise involved in this study. Awesome!

Re: Dozen eggs please.

The large fly seems to be a Chironomid midge, unrelated to the batches of eggs; these look like egg rafts of the mosquito Culex pipiens. There are also a couple of smaller insects, possibly thrips or small beetles.
Don't worry, you won't get Zika virus from the mosquitoes!

Stacking query

Having never tried stacking, and having been amazed (yes, honestly) at the numerous photos on the forum, can I ask what is considered the best and easiest software for stacking? Any tips on proceedures would be greatly welcomed. Many thanks, John

Re: DSLR mounted on 'scope and controlled via Android tablet tether software

John: Like you, I have a Brunel adapter, in my case coupled to a Sony nex3. I am considering changing to a Canon Eos, as I have no remote control on the Sony (among other disadvantages). Would you tell me what adapter you used to couple your Brunel adapter to the Canon, please; many thanks. Your sup...

Re: Some tiny buds starting to awaken....

Dear JohnB I think your shrub is a Kerria; it has yellow flowers And your photos look exactly like one I've just looked at in the garden. Your wax oven is a brilliant idea, but how was the controller rigged up? Does it switch on,off the mains, with the oven controls on all the time? Incidentally, I ...
