Re: How to prepare and preserve tardigrades on a slide
Our study showed that among the nine mounting methods tested, thermal inactivation of animals at 60 °C for 30 min followed by briefly pressing the coverslip with an entomological pin produced specimens fixed optimally for morphometry and imaging (i.e. maximally stretched and levelled but not deform...

Re: Is this a tardigrade?
You gather your samples similar to how I get mine. I leave the moss soaking for at least 24 hours, then give it a gentle squeeze into a watch glass and either look under a stereoscope or do a few drops of water per slide. I personally don't put a cover slip on until I see one, but stay away from th...

Re: Help needed identifying two specimens
I found these two specimens in a sample from the reed beds in a local freshwater pond. One seems to have some similarities to a pair of diatoms , but unlike any I've seen before, the pair is 60um wide and 75 long, it was taken at 20x 0.46NA . The other image was taken at 40x 0.95 NA and was moving ...

Re: Moss Capsule sectioning for slide making
Hi shawn. If you mean the wax-blocks (containing specimen for sectioning), I use those cheap plastic divided boxes that sets of screws etc come in. As far as ambient environment, room-temp is fine. The blocks really do keep well for several years at least, in my experience. I often have 'left over'...
