Re: Lang-Elektronik motorized stage
I am trying to guess. The stage motion must be controlled by reference to a pre-defined "zero" starting point. A "reset" position. Possibly, pressing the start button sends it to this reference position. If that is correct, then pressing "start " after the stage has been moved with the joystick to ...

Re: Lang-Elektronik motorized stage
I can imagine that this stage has been sold over a microscope manufacturer. Maybe you can find information after you have found out for which microscope it was made? Good idea, but I feel like I have exhausted all information avenues. I'm not sure where to go next. It does fit my Nikon TMD, but I d...

Re: Lang-Elektronik motorized stage
I should say that for my uses, the joystick works just fine. I do a lot of scanning and this makes it so much easier than reaching back and turning those knobs. I'm happy to have this and hope it can last a bit longer.

Re: Lang-Elektronik motorized stage
There are several switches like the one in the photo 1. IMG_3457.jpg I have no idea what they do, but I cant see anything that looks like a photo detector. That looks like a simple mechanical ‘microswitch’ MichaelG. . Edit: it may possibly be that this is the successor firm to lang-elektronik https...

Re: Lang-Elektronik motorized stage
I can't help you with the repair but this is an interesting item for sure. It would be interesting to use it to shoot a batch of images that then can be stitched together. If these are stepper motors it might be possible to exchange the complete contro box against a control board of a 3D printer. P...

Re: Lang-Elektronik motorized stage
From experience with other stages: likely the stage has two photo-cell sensor microswitches that mark the ranges of motion, X direction and Y direction respectively. It is important to install them in the exact original positions. Thank you ! There are several switches like the one in the photo 1. ...

Lang-Elektronik motorized stage
I've just acquired a Lang-Elektronik MS 317 motorized x-y stage. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this ? I located the German company that made it ine the 90s , but they have since purged any info. I have the joystick working now, but I had to fix an electronic issue and take the enti...

Re: Rotifer (Squatinella mutica?)
I vote for more info on mintakax's "tiny capillary pipettes" and how they're used, preferably with pix. :geek: Haha- I was having trouble with a regular bulb type pipette in picking off individual ciliates from a larger sample viewed through a stereo scope. The bulb pressure between my fingers kept ...

Re: Rotifer (Squatinella mutica?)
For what its worth, I have frequently used a stereo microscope to view a large sample and then used a tiny capillary pipette to transfer one creature onto a slide and then add a drop or two of clear pond water. The technique works really well and the capillary pipettes don't require any manipulation...

Mintakax, amazing videos! This one looks a lot like a Nikon Small World Winner: https://vimeo.com/369062481 ...it is no single celled anything, it is a dinosaur that survived the K-T extinction!!!! ...one question, if it was for the money, clear. But if it was about technology, optics, could you pl...

Re: thinking out loud here - moral thoughts
The mere fact that an organism, however small and whatever it does, exists, justifies its existence. I sometimes have the same feelings as the topic starter. We place micro organisms between two pieces of glass - where they certainly die - just for fun, no other reason. Same as fishing for fun and ...

Re: thinking out loud here - moral thoughts
I make every effort I can to minimize the harm I may cause the organisms that I observe and culture. Why ? Because I care. Caring about other beings doesn't have to be rationalized or described by any relative analysis. It isn't even a choice, it's just how I have to do it. All beings are governed b...

I just bought one just like this- has anyone used this with a Macbook computer? Can the images/videos go from camera to hard drive via the USB? I've been manipulating my camera through the menu that appears through HDMI on a monitor and then taking the card to my computer. The camera came with a US...

Re: HA2307 HDMI industrial camera
My usual camera is at Nikon for an upgrade and I was looking for something I could stick in an eyepiece tube of my stereo scope so I bought one of these from Amazon for $124. Honestly, for the money its pretty decent. I took some stills and some focus stacked pics with it but don't have a photo site...

Re: Fast Amoeboid
Thank you Wes ! I have no idea what the flagellate is and to be honest, there are scores of different creatures I see from my aquarium and cultures that I have no idea of their taxonomy apart from ciliate, flagellate or amoeboid. My aquarium is pretty simple. Its a 5 gal in my garage with 6 inches o...

Re: LED vs. Halogen
I have put Nanodyne LED units on both of the scopes I've used (Olympus BHS/BH2 DIC and Nikon TMD DIC 100W ). Both scopes came with 100W halogen. In both cases the LED was substantially brighter. I mainly went with LED to avoid heating up organisms, so I was less concerned with the photographic aspec...
