Re: Omano OM159 condenser?

Is that an old microscope ? if not, and if the only way of knowing whether it can move up and down is to buy one and try, that says something about the post-purchase support and customer service... and documentation of the microscope... It's a new model and I bought one and it does go up and down. ...

Re: Omano OM159 condenser?

With 300 looks and no replies I'll answer this myself.
The answer is..... Yes it does.
And how do I know this? I bought one.
See, it wasn't that hard.

Re: My first microscope thank you for your help that you did not even know you had given.

You have a real nice microscope. I also have an Omax, and I really like it. If you can answer these three questions with a yes, then you did good. 1. Did you get a good deal on the purchase? 2. Are you happy with the microscope? 3. Does it meet or exceed your expectations? I own several microscopes ...

Bob is giving excellent advice. I can only add that a series of three short Youtube videos have inspired several of us to delve more into this fascinating subject.

Re: A source for diatoms

Diatoms can be found in different places so why not start with something simple. When you scrape of the slime film on water plants you will usually find diatoms, and not too much dirt. Then you place some diatom slime on a cover slip, place the cover slip on a piece of flat stainless steel sheet me...

Re: A source for diatoms

Hi Steve, whether you will find complete diatom frustures or not varies from product to product. As this is no defined property of the product it may vary too. Generally you have to expect lots of broken bits and an intact diatom here and there. Especially the bigger diatoms will be broken most of ...

Cool. I have a similar stereo. One thing I can say is, make sure the base and scope are very heartily locked. If the base is not connected with a strong lock, the scope will move around for well over a second when changing the focus, before 'settling'. If you take a picture during this time, it wil...

Besides playing around with microscopes, I also play around with guns and ammo. I hand load and reload all of my own centerfire cartridges, and I use different powders to do so. It is a smaller area of the original image, you have not reduced the overall size of the original. I think Steve has reduced the image size as was suggested and it looks better at least to my bad eyes. I think what may be happening as that the lens associated with the 1.3 Mp camera has too much mag...

It is a smaller area of the original image, you have not reduced the overall size of the original. Nice pictures but as others have said a bit like sitting too close to the TV. Good details in the botanical sections - the woody-stem shows secondary growth similar to that seen in my earlier root sections, with rays in between the xylem vessels. The lily has the classic open 'net-like' air-contain...

Agree with gekko, a size reduction is in order. By the way, what does "compensating for the depth of field" entail? I'll download to Tinypic with the next size smaller. :) I call compensating for the depth of field, is trying to find a happy medium with the thickness of the specimen and try to find...

Sometimes I do a little refocus when I put the camera in, but I try to focus first. I think with this, I was trying to focus on the inside of the paramecium. I'm still learning with this, I wish I could of stayed with it through the years.
