Re: Balplan Epi

I am not sure, brightfield pn mine works great with a fiber optic light guide adapted on but darkfield does not. Simple solution: get the DIC attachment  I have DIC attachments. I hooked one up a couple years ago to an Olympus (https://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f...

Balplan Epi

So I don't know what to think of the DF with this Balplan Epi. How should the light source be lensed when shooting down into the epi?

On the left is an LED top and laser line bottom for brightfield.

On the right are the same light sources with the DF cube in place.

Re: Balplan Phase Contrast

Those are the flat field phase objectives. Later, they came out with planachromat versions that look like their non-phase counterparts. The only outside difference is the marking "PHASE." The baffling balplan thread has photos. There was also a turret condenser, and supposedly there was a flat fiel...

Balplan Phase Contrast

Does anyone have better pictures or details on the objectives for a Balplan's phase contrast? I have tried to use the CSI image enhancer as seen on TV, yet for some reason I cannot read the text on these objectives. It's almost like that enhance thing is fake or something -- hmm. That's odd. :) Than...

Re: Positive Phase Contrast Objective Phase Plates

So still trying to figure a way to do phase contrast with standard objectives. This technique uses a beam splitter with a hole punch in a mirror to run two light paths that are merged after a neutral density filter takes half that light and changes its amplitude and phase: "Although in a conventiona...

I love that there is a $5 shipping fee. That's just a wonderful final touch. I think someone got bored. At least I hope that's what this -- OMG!!!! There's also a Nikon set screw too!!!!

It's a steal at $25 USD!!!!!

And the shipping is only $5!!!!!!

I mean it might be stainless steel, and that's pretty heavy for a set screw.

I know you want it...

OMG!!! OMG!!!!!!! It’s a grub screw!!!! And not just any set screw, but an Olympus one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to have it!!!! Or maybe I’ll go to ACE hardware’s little drawer section and get one for 25 cents. Yeah. I’ll do that instead. Oh wait, I don’t need one actually. Nevermind….

Re: Shipping a 70lbs microscope (Olympus AX70)

In testing this crate; the corners, the double corrugated cardboard sides, and the lid are rather strong. So putting some vertical triangular columns inside around the edges makes it even stronger to deal with a shipper stacking something on top. Worst case is a heavy pressure right in the center. M...

Shipping a 70lbs microscope (Olympus AX70)

Ok. So maybe when packaging an Olympus AX70 frame, maybe this might be a bit excessive. But the person who wants it, is on the other side of the planet. And their previous experience with some local seller resulted in a smashed AX70 with actual cracks in the aluminum cast frame. Plus the turret cart...

Re: Scientists Create Salt Grain-Sized Hi-Res Camera

Need to check what focal length's are possible. For example, can an objective be reduced to this grain of sand size? Has anyone played with the holographic lenses from Edmund Optics? Basically if you're fine with polarized light only, a holographic print can be used to lens light.

Scientists Create Salt Grain-Sized Hi-Res Camera

https://80.lv/articles/scientists-create-salt-grain-sized-hi-res-camera "A team of researchers from Princeton and the University of Washington has managed to create a tiny camera the size of a grain of salt that can capture high-resolution, full-color images measuring 720 x 720 pixels. According to ...

The bearing pads would be the Laborlux frame tabs in its female connector. :o , this could actually work, thank you for designing this. Re: Frankenstar IV

For this to work, a ring with a set screw would wrap the epi’s male connector. Then that assembly would drop down into the microscope frame. But if the set screw is placed above the male MicroStar dovetail, that would raise the epi up leaving a gap. So a plate could be done as shown to fill that gap...

Re: Frankenstar IV

I am speculating here, but it looks like it could be. My understanding of finite systems suggests one would need some sort of tube lens to compensate for the increased length when adding the epi, but my ignorance prevents me from having any valuable input on the likelihood of it functioning. If tha...

Re: Frankenstar IV

It looks like you could do an adapter that is basically a tube. I didn't model the top inset anchor-points/bearing-pads. And in this image showing a cross section, it would be way shorter. Also the angle of the dovetail is just arbitrarily 45 degrees, but Olympus is 60. So that is probably wrong. Bu...

Re: Frankenstar IV

The vertical illuminator that I plan on adapting is from the Laborlux (160/170mm) the clamp mechanism as well as the diameter of the insertion for the head is a lot wider on the Reichert, and so it would need an insert to fill the gap as well as to hold it in place,. Light path Alignment will play ...

Nice suite of attachments for sure.
Oh if that's what you meant. Sorry. I though you were talking about the slider itself.

Curious about the slider on the nosepiece above the objectives. That is an expensive nosepiece btw because it can be used for DIC.
You mean the U-TAD with the DIM slot? It can hold a polarizer, but no DIC.

Here's a picture of one:

Ideally you want the light focus on the backplane of the objectives. What dove tail dimensions are there?

I had thought yours look like this one, with no lever. So it's interesting that yours has that, but the cubes were removed.

This item (don't know the dealer) shows you what a four cube holding turret looks like. (https://www.ebay.com/itm/174670110858)

If you ever upgrade to epi-fluorescence, this will hold some beam splitters and filters.
