Congrats! Incide tally I have a trinocular attachment for this model--if you ever want one drop me a line. They're kind of rare but I can sell it reasonably.

Reconsider that point.
The 100x and 40x in this test are made for the same optical system so if that were the issue you would expect both to perform poorly. That's aside from this combination being something of a known quatity from previous testing.

If you can return this objective I'd try that.

Re: Using modern olympus objectives on old olympus

I think your objective is decentered or otherwise borked. Darn shame.
The tube lens in the bh2 illuminators is pretty neutral, the far corners on aps-c seemed to do something when I had one but I didn't test it that well. Either way it is fairly ckmpatible with modern olympus.

I have never used a m4/3 camera before, but I assume since the mount is the same that you could use any m4/3 teleconverter, though of course some are probably much better than others.

Re: Is it ok to use metalloscopy objective in biology microscope?

This will not work. Optically it's fine, Motic's tube lenses are made to the Olympus standard and will play perfectly fine with mitutoyo spec objectives (though it would give 9x rather than 10x magnification), and at NA 0.28 you won't have coverslip issues. They also don't mind transmitted light. Bu...

Re: DIC on Nikon Eclipse Ci-L

On the older E line the E400 was prevented from mounting doc hardware by its geometry. With some grinding into the metal frame one could be mounted (I think Pete demonstrated this in an older thread). It might be a similar situation here.

Yes, that spacing is going to matter. I don't know what you can get away with in using one out of spec before the image quality degrades noticeably, but I would guess you can't get away with much.

Re: higher magnifications with a M4/3 camera on a Leica M420?

On the m420 you'd use any of the standard 38mm adapters that Wild offered. That could be the afocal setup with a viewing eyepiece (not great) or afocal with one of the dedicated photo eyepieces (probably better), but if you're using m4/3 it's probably going to be a poor result. You could also use Ni...

The M5 was made for decades. They msy have offered it with a few similarly specced power supplies over that period. I've certainly seen plenty of variations from the wild/leitz family.

I have had stereo microscopes that seemed to be aligned on testing but nevertheless were painful for me and others to use, taking unpleasant effort to converge. Don't ask me why though. Easy enough to swap the head.

Re: Wild M8 vs Wild MZ3

The m8 is a little higher tier than the m3z optically but they're both very solid. Especially if the m3z has a normal 1x and not a plan 1x the m8 will definitely outperform it in a very noticeable way. The m3z does have more optional accessories though, including the s stand and even a native planap...

As far as I can tell Seiwa still only makes metallurgical/laser objectives, mostly but not entirely in the Miutotoyo 95mm standard/space. I have a feeling that that must be crossed wires on their part.

That will depend on your objectives and dye. I set up a friend's lab with a leitz I refurbished with led lamphouses and a dslr for shooting and it gives them at least adequate results for their research.

Typically 1x adapters are meant for 1" sensors. Maybe one of the options from risingcam would work. It is also possible to just permanently mount a dslr, sometimes at a lower cost.

You might have delamination or oil on one of the lenses. What type of stereostar is it? To figure out where it is you can remove the ryepieces, shine a light through the bottom lenses and look through the eyeholes (careful not to shine the light directly into your eyes so you don't get dazzled).

I admit it is difficult to make comparisons and draw conclusions, but coincidentally, I have both AH and BH2 DIC kits and have obtained test images of both. If anyone is interested, I can publish them.
I think that would be of great interest and worthy of its own thread. Please post!
