Re: New Lab Microscope for Imaging Blood Cells - less than $

Gracie, your Omax should be able to image blood cells and can be upgraded to improve its performance. Two enhancements come to mind, PLAN objectives and a bright field condenser-you mention you have a dark field condensor. Something as simple as a 3MP USB camera will suffice and a DSLR with camera a...

Colpidium I Think

I think these are Colpidium. About 60um's. 40X obj. with eyepiece projection, 400X. There were many and although you can not see their shape, there are a few faster moving Spirillium in the image.

It's the old 80/20 rule. You get a microscope that is ~80% as good as the German or Japanese brands for 20% of the cost. I am quite pleased with it.

Re: Nemotode

About one mm stretched out. Contracted on itself when it reversed direction. Expected to see a nematode when I saw this. I could be wrong but don't think big enough to be a flat worm and does not have a big head. Pretty soon the ponds and ground will be frozen so glad I am able to capture some while...

Nemotode

Added some garden soil to my jar aquarium today and out came a Nematode. Followed it around for a while with various magnifications and illuminations. This one is 10x USb 3MP camera with oblique illumination.

Re: Dark Field for Higher Magnifications

QCC and Gekko, thanks for all the good input and the site of stop sizes. How does one position the stop in the exact center of the clear acetate? That has been my problem and that is why I went to resting the filter on the lamp. Works for the 4x and 10x but no matter what size, not too well for the ...

Thanks to all. #3 made my head hurt ;) I'll go with #2.

BTW, I rest the filter on the lamp. That way I can move the filter to ensure the dark spot is centered.

Dark Field for Higher Magnifications

I use a filter with a dark spot about 3/4" (2 CM's) for the 4x and 10x obj's. Works great. Should I go larger or smaller for the40x obj? So far nothing has worked. Would appreciate suggestions. Can one use a dark spot filter on the 40x?

Thanks. JimT

I think a Halteria. About 25-30um's. Moving quite fast and rotating so image a bit blurry. USB camera with 40x obj. and green filter.
