Re: Moss Root and leaf

Bacteria not captured in these images as they move in and out of focus so quickly and are rather uninteresting to photograph.

Moss Root and leaf

This is one root strand and leaf cells from green moss that grows between the crevices in the bricks in my patio. Moss is small. Leaves are only one mm long so cells are about 25um's. Lots of bacteria (Cocci?) visible. 40X Obj., 10X EP, eyepiece projection Canon 60D.

Re: Hi guys

Pawab, in order to see opaque subjects you need a source of top; incident lighting. One simple way to do this with a compound microscope is to position two goose neck lamps-one to a side to light the subject from above. With such an arrangement however you will be restricted to the 4x and 10x object...

Thanks. Further investigation confirmed they can live in dry environments. I believe it is a Philodina. Glad it isn't from my drinking water :-)

Re: That strange yellow glow...?

Uneven lighting maybe. Do you use Photoshop? If so experiment with white balance and layer masks for the yellow section. JimT

Rotifer???

Found a maple seed "wing" today and here is a small section at 100x-10x obj, 10xEP, and eyepiece projection with dark field. Drop of water added. Looks like a rotifer and there were several. This "Wing" was dry for several months-I hope. It was in a crevice of my car door which I hope is not damp. N...

Re: Thinking about a new objective or two

My two cents; don't get another turret. You will spend too much time switching the turrets. Instead, replace the 100x OI with a 60x dry. I did and use it a lot more than I used the 100x. You can always reinstall the 100x if you want to get really close. My set up is 4x, 10x, 40x, and 60x with a 10x ...

Feather

As per QCC's question about relative or pretty here is a downy feather at 100X eyepiece projection-10x obj, 10x Ep, D60 Canon.
Not intended to be "Pretty" but just as an interesting micro photo. To me it looks like pine needles.

Re: To be relative or not to be. That is the question.

Depends on the intent. Lab work should be "Relative" and of interest to technicians. Microscope images can be "Pretty" and enjoyed by many. However, both can be both. JimT
