Feeling much more comfortable here
While being a serious amateur photographer, I see microscopy as more of a fascinating, and enjoyable pass time, and as such do not buy second hand premium brand microscopes, but new sub £1k Chinese microscopes. I started out with a Chinese Trioc, with achromatic optics, and have now moved up to a hi...

Re: Microscope Upgrade
Hi John, yes it is the SP100. I thought about the SP150, and SP200, but as I won't be doing any of the more specialised stuff, such as Fluorescence etc, I decided that I didn't need to go to the extra expense of infinity corrected optics, and that 160mm Plan optics would be adequate for my needs. Ha...

Re: Potted Bamboo Hand Sectioned
Image stacking is common practice with macro photography.
A true macro lens has an inherently shallow depth field, and as such an object with any depth to it, may require a considerable number of images to be taken at different focus points
It can be very effective.

As always 'apo; you speak wise words based upon extensive experience. However, as I think I have said before, to me, micrcroscopy is not a serious hobby, but more fascinating pass time. wheres as my serious, and expensive interest is photography. I bought the Bresser Trino to see if microscopy was s...

Re: Microscope Upgrade
Hi Alan I have sold the Bresser, and have pretty much made up my mind, subject to getting the right answers back to the questions I have submitted to the supplier. Unfortunately, it won't be from Bresser, as their customer support has been excellent, but the model I wanted, the TRM301, is only avail...

Re: Standard Plan Objectives v Plan Infinity objectives.
Absolutely Alan, but not always practical, which is why I wouldn't buy second hand on e-bay, or from some distant private seller. At least when buying new i have some comeback if it is below the expected standard. The only two places to 'try before you buy' in the UK is GT Vision, and Brunel. GT are...

Re: Hello Microbe Hunters - New Here and Ready to Buy my Next Microscope
I looked at these low pixel population Micro Cams, and as a seasoned photographer, decided to go down the DSLR route. Not wanting to put my Full Frame EOS 5d MklV on a microscope, as it is both an expensive, and heavy 'beast', I bought a budget end EOS 4000d. Lightweight plastic body, and an 18mp AP...

Hi, and welcome aboard.
Whatever microscope you buy, as long as you enjoy using it, is what really matters.
BTW, I'm a relatively new to this group, and have to say I much prefer it to the Amateur Microscopy Facebook group, which comes across as being a bit elitist.

Re: Potted Bamboo Hand Sectioned
I know that the majority of enthusiasts only buy used high-end gear, but I only ever buy new, whether it be a car, photography gear, or whatever. Its just something that I do, and enjoy doing. So, it will be of Chinese origin, and new. That said, most of the ' big names' outsource their manufacturin...

Re: Potted Bamboo Hand Sectioned
A very nice setup indeed John, which clearly produces some impressive results. Having whetted my appetite for micro photography, with the Bresser Researcher Trino, I have started the process of looking at upgrading to a scope with Plan objectives, and Kohler illumination. As such, I have provisional...

Re: Infinity corrected microscopes
I'm no expert Ivan, but I am led to believe that in terms of image sharpness, and resolution, there is no difference between infinity corrected optics, and 160mm RMS standard ones. However, again, as I am led believe, a microscope with infinity corrected optics is far more flexible when come to 'ref...

I have looked at that one Alan, but am trying to justify the cost, given that for me, microscopy is more of a fascinating pass time, than a serious hobby. Re: Microscope Upgrade
I would hope that a Bresser microscope with Plan objectives, would have suitably matching eyepieces to go with it Bob.
I wasn't thinking about changing the achromat objectives on my existing scope for Plan ones, but a whole new microscope.

Re: Microscope Upgrade
Yeah, thanks for that Alan.
The TFM301 would be ideal Alan, as it is the same body as the TRM301, but with semi-plan objectives.
Unlike it more expensive brother, the TFM301 has LED lighting.
Now if Bresser could supply the TFM301 with Plan objectives, that would be the ideal solution.

Am I right in thinking that in terms of image sharpness the is noting to choose between either of the objectives? I understand that infinity corrected objectives are more versatile when it comes to adding intermediate accessories, but if you want change any of the objectives, they have to be ones fr...

Second attempt at imaging
Grabbed a sample from the Bird Bath, and placed a drop of the water on a cavity slide, and placed a cover slip over the top, to try and slow movement down a bit. Found a Rotifer swimming around, and what I believe to be a Euglena The 400x image is zoomed and cropped, especially with the Euglena, whi...
