Re: Will my condenser mount fit a Lomo Aplanatic condenser?
Well i've found that my microscope accepts 37mm condenser mounts so the condenser can definitely be situated, my question are there other things now that'll prevent usage of the condenser? Like are condensers similar to infinity optics in that they are not compatible with other microscopes despite ...

Re: 403 Forbidden Error
For what it's worth, I was receiving the Forbidden Error during the last day or so - up until just now. I didn't do anything to my computer to fix the problem - it just started working again on its own. It basically said I was not permitted to access this site on a particular server. I presumed that...

Speaking of deals - here's a very nice AO/Spencer model 13 in a case for a buy-it-now price of a hundred bucks, plus thirty-four shipping. Looks as though it has never once been used. Been kicking around on eBay for at least a month. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPENCER-LENS-CO-STEREOSCOPIC-MICROSCOPE-31...

........ There are fairly inexpensive older mid-mag. oil objectives that work almost as good dry as they do with oil too, and so can be put into a 4 objective rotation and do double duty . One, I know for sure is the AO cat. # 1026 50x .85 oil achromat but it is infinity and probably restricted to ...

Re: 100x Oil immersion in practice
Stepping down, without removing immersion oil, to 4x (NA 0.1) or 10x (NA 0.25) dry objective is perfectly fine (you may just need to readjust focus slightly). Even 20x (NA 0.4) will work somewhat (but not optimally). Any dry objective more powerful than NA 0.4 would not work well. I'm curious: What...

You can buy Cargille immersion oil online at Ebay and Amazon. It's not all that cheap, but an 8 ounce applicator bottle lasts a very long time. And no,...

Thanks for the help! He asks $7 for it. Maybe worth the investment and let the kids play with it :-) That is very little money for a Bausch and Lomb anything, especially almost unused. Here's a link to one on Ebay for about twice that amount, and there are several others available as well. http://w...

It is difficult to find any company literature online for Bausch and Lomb microscopes, but that appears to be a simple model for use in gradeschools. I don't have the best vision in the world, so it is sometimes difficult for me to judge sharpness or focus on a computer screen, but these photos look pretty good to me. You can't necessarily expect all parts of the object to be simultaneously in sharp focus without some sort of imaging or stacking ...

Re: stains can't get it yet.
Tincture of iodine makes an excellent stain for some subjects, particularly starchy things. But $7 an ounce, as in the link, is way too much to pay for it. Try some natural or organic things such as juice from cooked beets, blue or purple grape juice, dark red wine, black or other berries, etc. Gene...

Re: Bright field condenser usage for high NA and Koehler illumination
Something else occurs to me: Have you ever tried focusing the substage condenser for critical illumination? That is, have you tried focusing an image of the LED at the object plane of your scope so that the specimen and LED itself are in focus simultaneously? Try that and see if the top element of y...

Ha! Another night owl! I went and took a look at your link. That's really a fairly decent-looking microscope. It takes more than just the addition of a field iris to give you kohler illumination, though - you'd have to replace or change the focus of the lenses in the illuminator. Even so, the kohler...

Re: Bright field condenser usage for high NA and Koehler illumination
Thank you all! I have a Chinese microscope, and the condenser came with the scope, but it's probably designed for critical illumination, because "Kohler Illuminator" that came with it is an optional item to put over the illuminator (LED). Anyway, I decided to use it non-oiled for now, and maybe try...

Re: Bright field condenser usage for high NA and Koehler illumination
To be oiled to the slide, the condenser needs to be very close to the slide. On the other hand, for Koehler illumination the condenser needs to be at some greater distance from the slide. How to solve this dilemma? If the condenser is properly matched for your illumination system, it should be clos...
