Re: Copepod (harpacticoida?) dying

Thanks. Do you know whether these drops are they in the blood stream, or does everything mix because of the fact the creature is crushed?
edit: I think I already found out. Because they are small, they have no heart and no circulation system, so I think everything 'floats' around inside the body.

Copepod (harpacticoida?) dying

I made a video of a copepod I found on a glass sheet above the water of my fish tank. I wonder what the red stuff in his body is, that is spilled at the end of the video. I think it is blood. But I am not sure, because there are large and small sperical parts in it (I think blood cells are all the s...

I also had to take the mirror assembly out, because the iris was stuck and I could not repair it without taking the assembly out of the microscope. I did not notice any difference in lighting after re-assembling.

Re: My Leitz Orthoplan

That's exactly my plan. And for the time it takes to let it repair (found someone who wants to do it for free, when he has time) I bought an inexpensive PSU to be able to use the microscope untill the Leitz is repeared.

Re: My Leitz Orthoplan

I wouldn't buy cheap Chinese electronics. It probably work for some time and then the electronics will cook. Maybe you are right. But I have two original Leitz PSU's now, one that came with the microscope and one I bought from a forum member. The first one gave up after less then a month and the se...

Re: My Leitz Orthoplan

In the case you do not find another original Leitz power supply, following MicroBob's advice above, a general purpose variable supply with display should serve. One of the best, though certainly not the cheapest (and regretfully outside my budget), makes of power supplies is Delta Elektronika, base...

Re: My Leitz Orthoplan

Thanks for all the advice. Yesterday I found out that someone I know has experience in repairing this kind of electric devices and he is going to repair it for free. And I think I also will by some other device to use in case this one will stop workong again in the future.

Re: My Leitz Orthoplan

Yesterday my power supply gave up. The day before I already saw it 'flickering' a couple of times. Today the same, a couple of slight dimmings and brightenings again and then it slowly went dead. Checked the lamp, which was good. Found out that the problem is, that there's no current coming out of t...

Chilodonella?

One of my aquarium fish (Uaru Amphicatoides) is sick. Two visible symptoms are a lot of mucus on the skin and heavy breathing. I have been searching the internet and the symptoms are consistent with a chilodonella (a ciliate) infection. I took some of the mucus (floating in the water) and inspected ...

Re: Another nice, fast moving amoebe, from my pond

Nice catch. You should try oblique, think you will find they are more visible that way. Almost missed this - would have expected it to be in Pictures and Videos
I will try oblique next time. And post video's in Pictures and Video's.

Re: which amoebe is this?

OK, it was the sensor. I cleaned it. I had seen the spots, but thought it was in the specimen. Should have seen though that this couldn't be the case because they did not move with the stage. Didn't give it much attention because I was too busy chasing amoebae. Thanks for mentioning it.

If it's the same as this one: I also find it in my fish tank. Not in the water, but on a very wet glass bridge with algae, just above the water level. Don't know what is is though.

I take it you have not sorted out a Periplan for the photo tube yet? I have a periplan, but the images are not as good as the images (and video's) I take with the relay lens setup. And the field is very small. But I am not done experimenting yet. This looks like a Chaetogaster to me Perfectly possi...

Oligochaete worm

I found an oligochaete worm, but don't know the species name. Maybe someone knows. To give an idea of the size: the width of the FOV is a little less then 2 millimeters. Used my 10x objective.

I also had this once and I thought it was blood (blood sample on the slide). But it was just dirt on the cover slip. Even dirt can look nice under a microscope.

What did I find in my small pond?

I found two small creatures in my pond. I have searched the internet but could not identify them. I think the first one is a flagellate, because sometimes a thin flagella like 'tail' can be seen. The second ones goes crazy from time to time and starts rotating very fast. First one with 63 x objectiv...
