Hi Peter,
Do you realize what you are implying?

Hi RudiV, I have been keeping bees for 17 years and if I can be of any help please get in touch. I have obtained all the British Beekeeping written modules and the microscopy module so I have some idea of what is expected re; drones. I also have a big collection of pollen grains. Good luck to you fo...

OK guys now for my penny worth, the algae looks like Oedogonium and the diatoms I would suggest are Gomphonema note the bottle shape to them, or a wedge.

Hi Rod
Great vid and good motion within the plant. There is so much that goes on that we do not fully understand but its fascinating watching what goes on. Good dedicated piece of work.

Re: Came across new web site
I have gone through the Diatom section and found this to be one of the best forms of information and naming of individual diatoms.
It's one I have down loaded for reference in the future, I consider this site an important site for diatomists.

Try moving the condenser up and down as this might help to focus items.

I think this could be Peridinium its a dinoflagellate with a substantial theca lying just inside the cell membrane. The most evident sculptings of this 'armoured' are two groves (the equatorial groove and the longtitudinal groove normally carries a flagellum (not seen in this photo).

Yes that sure is Loxophyllum inits full glory. Good photographs and easy to study. I wonder if there is any way where the internal organs can be shown?

OK 75,
I thought it might be along the lines of Navicula Jentzii and Amphora exigua but I must settle for a genus of Surirella sp.
Well that made me think for a while and it opened different doors for me thanks 75.

Hi 75,
My first thoughts is this diatom is not Surirella gemma because gemma has large spaces between each individual striae and yours are uniformly spaced along the valve. I'll try and find what I think it might be.

Hi Guys, Yes Kurt it is a rotary mechanical stage. The very first photo shows a deformed diatom, the ones that are shaped like a lemon need careful studying as there are about 5/6 different species that they could be. But as normal a set of good photos for the diatomaniacs of us all.to study.

Re: Video of amoeba eating a couple small protozoans
A really good vid. Although amoeba are apparently almost structureless bits of protoplasm. Amoeba is within the order of Rhizopods which are defined as having no shell or skeleton and usually with blunt pseudopodia. When this animal moves the inner endoplasm first flows out into the lobe - a pseudop...

Nice set of diatoms Rod but I think I would question the genus of 2. Delphineis as I think it should be Cymbella citrus. And 4. Rhapalodia I think it might be (possible) Stauroneis sp. On the whole a good set of photos with plenty to study and inwardly digest. Great to see you have not lost your tou...

I understand the predicament were in concerning how to observe the girdle view of a broken diatom. How is the problem of turning the valve view on its side. I have seen a dissected diatom somewhere let me find it.
