Re: camera newbie questions
How did you get different flavors(colors) of paramecium? All I have every seen are transparent and grayish.

Re: camera newbie questions
I suppose it does, to a degree, but the opinion here is that the objectives control the DOF, higher power objectives, have less, lower power have more. The diaphragm at the condenser controls the contrast.I'm assuming you're referring to aperture which would vary the DOF?

Re: camera newbie questions
I think I can answer 3 of the questions. [1] Did this occur because the M150C uses LED lighting? Yes. Halogen lighting would produce a warmer color closer to orange. [2] The mag power is 10X like you are viewing through a 10X EP [3] That rotary dial is a cheaper alternative to an iris, found in Amsc...

Re: "Dumb" Trinocular question
Mine opens and shuts for the camera but when the door is open for the camera you can't look through the eyepieces.

Re: "Dumb" Trinocular question
Ah, OK you have a more expensive scope than mine, and/or I don't know how to use this one. I have just been pulling the pin all the way out or pushing it all the way in. As stated in my sig, I have the T400b. Viewing both at the same time definitely has advantages. Since I was wrong, I'll shut up no...

Re: "Dumb" Trinocular question
Well if it's like my Amscope T400b, it has a knob that you pull across to block the Eyepiece ports an also opens the imaging tube.
In my case, I can use one or the other but not both at the same time.

Re: Phase Contrast and Objectives
I just want to add something you didn't ask about (please overlook if you are already aware of it): you can use your phase objectives as brightfield objectives, so you can quickly switch between phase and brightfield (or darkfield, oblique). Thanks, gekko, I'm interested in PC also and i thought I'...

Re: 40X Oil Infinity Objective
I never tried it but my brother did. It was a six inch and he gave up on it about halfway through, It wasn't so much complicated as it was tedious. It was hours and hours of grinding! I was born in 1942 and just now achieving my childhood dreams of both a telescope and a microscope! I kinda think I ...

Re: 40X Oil Infinity Objective
Wow! Microscopes are a lot more complicated then telescopes!
Apoch, I'm not going to purchase immediately, but I am glad you've cleared that up for me. I have sent a question to the seller. asking if it was DIN. If it's shorter and will cause problems, I can do without it for now.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: 40X Oil Infinity Objective
[UPDATE] Do you use oil on the condenser also to have a complete path for the light? Great Apoch, Thanks I always love to look at images others have made. I have a question about image quality and will show some of my own images but I better post in the right forum, it's off topic here. I just check...

Re: 40X Oil Infinity Objective
Thanks, all of you! Since I can't use infinity objectives, I'll try your suggestion of a B&L, zzffnn, if I can find one and they aren't too expensive. The suggestion of books and websites are good, but you can't ask questions or clarifications of a book! Whether you realize it or not I always search...

Re: 40X Oil Infinity Objective
Well that's up to you Jim, but I was not referring to you; only to zzffnn. Every post of his is either a put down on my choice of scopes or a put down on my experience. I didn't mean to be rude but I have had enough of his rudeness, unsuccessfully described as helpfulness. I guess I shall get kicked...

Re: 40X Oil Infinity Objective
zzffnn: I don't need basic microscopy knowledge. If you are going to put me down with every comment you post. Please don't post at all. I can do without the negativity. JimT I know you mean well, but if I didn't need oil type 40X. why do they make them? For more resolution and clarity of course. Tha...

40X Oil Infinity Objective
I recently received a pair of 16X EP's and I love them! I turned up the light and my blood cells look sharp and crisp and a kind of translucent gold color( I have no Wright's Stain). For my next purchase I would like to get a 40X Oil objective but the only one I can find is for infinity microscopes....

Re: Oil immersion
Thanks for the suggestion Eddie! I have a friend who's a Vet and I bet he would give me some wright's stain and some immersion oil for that matter. In the 60's when I had the first Scope I bought some Wright's Stain from a Medical supply place. They probably have all kinds of laws in place now, so t...

Re: Oil immersion
Kurt, I think he's referring to the initials of a procedure but I don't know what it is. Here is a puzzler though. I bought an old-style microscope from Edmund Scientific in the middle sixties. They referred to it as "Society Size". It had a three turret objective holder and one Ob was an oil immers...

Re: Oil immersion
OK thanks guys! After the blood I want to examine another slide I made of an epithelial cell also sans coverslip. Now in this case Do I put the cover slip on or no? Oil immersion
What's the correct procedure? I made a slide of my blood and viewed it with my 10x EP and 40X Ob All's well. That was several days ago and the slide still looks good at 400X Now i want to view it at 1000X with my 100x Oil Ob. Can I just put a drop of oil on the slide and lower my 100X into it or wil...

Re: 60X objective
you know i think that looks like the ones amscope sells. They are unbranded so I think they must be pretty common. I am ordering that one, actually two, from Amazon. I choose Amazon for ordering instead of Amscope, because of a no-hassle return policy and things seem to arrive quicker. I don't know ...

Re: 60X objective
Yes the 20x came with the scope. Bt I get much clearer views with the 10X and now that I understand how to figure the maximum usable power I will stick to the formula of 1000 * N,A. That will limit me to 650X if I go no higher than the 40X. I think that's alright though, probably for everything but ...

You can get one for as little as $20 brand new from Amazon and these have a gurantee. Of course a window sill is cheaper yet and you'd have to be mighty impatient not to wait 15 minutes!

Re: 60X objective
A difference of opinion over technique I have no problem with. When someone who thinks that only brand name scopes are worth considering or that brand name scopes represent an "Upgrade" regardless of their condition when bought, I have a problem. For instance, probably many of you would advise a beg...

Re: 60X objective
Well I don't know how the thread veered off into a discussion of the poor quality of chinese microscopes. That was not my intent to let the brand snobs control my posts. My intent was to which objective i should replace the 60X with. I have made the decision with your help and I don't need to be ost...

I open up the diaphragm and use the 100x dry sometimes. Uther than that I don't use it much because it rests so close to the specimen.

Is that the same as a "Shallow Depth of Field"?As others have observed, the 60x is much more sensitive to cover glass thickness and specimen depth

Thanks for all the replies! I will not get into a flame war in a comparison between the Liecas, Nikons and Olympus scopes versus the Chinese. I don't think the Mods would be happy. A lot of folks here use Amscopes and are as pleased with them as I am. There is no need to upgrade. Your pictures look ...
