Re: Developing a course on microscope use

Inverted scope and sample cleaning and preparation? Actually, the Olympus IMT-2 is an inverted scope. But sample cleaning and preparation is an important topic to cover. Or did you specifically mean sample preparation for use on an inverted? I would be specific for sample prep for inverted. Yes, I ...

So the equipment that will be available for the course consists of the following: 1 Stereos 1a) A Zeiss StereoDiscovery.V20 with Plan Apo optics, including an objective revolver with Plan Apo S 0.63x and Plan Apo S 1.5x, motorized focus & zoom, Z-stacking using Zen Blue, LED cold light (BD, DF, pola...

Re: Developing a course on microscope use

some HERE Thanks Tony! Those are exactly what I had in mind. Won't hurt to find more, though. I would need permission to use these of course (naturally with the owner/photographer mentioned in each shot), even at the funding proposal stage. Proposals usually aren't publicly available but I am prett...

Developing a course on microscope use

Hi people, I've started to develop an idea for a comprehensive course on microscopy, how to use them properly, develop a practical understanding of what can be achieved using different microscopes and contrast techniques and how. Also a segment on how to prepare samples and specimens. Importantly, a...

Re: My new (to me) Wild M10 & Leica Rotterman Contrast base

Yep. I think this base is optimal. The newer versions have a couple more bells and whistles but mostly they don't bring any important gain in functionality. I have one of these and will use it to set up incident light: Leica_Schott_Hi-Power_Led_spot.jpg I am in the process of getting a third-party p...

My new (to me) Wild M10 & Leica Rotterman Contrast base

Hi people, Christmas is early this year! I was finally able to find what I have been searching for many years, the 'holy grail' of stereomicroscopes, the Wild M10! :) The scope came with the Leica ergo binocular, Wild 10x eyepieces and PlanApo 1x objective. It was on a large Leica icident light stan...

Re: Wild Heerbrugg M8 scraping noise on zoom

I am resurrecting this old thread because I have spent a good part of the day trying to clean the zoom mechanism of a Wild M8. The zoom knobs were turning but there was no zoom action and nothing was moving inside. It was relatively easy to open the zoom unit, though there were some problems with st...

Re: Wild trinocular head, opening/repairing?

I'll correct myself. Removing the three screws on the bottom plate actually does enable one to remove the bottom plate and the double iris system with it, allowing access inside the trinocular head. Haven't yet got the courage to attempt removing anything else. At least I now have access to the big ...

Wild trinocular head, opening/repairing?

Hello, Would anyone happen to have a repair manual on the Wild trinocular head or hands-on experience of opening one up? The head in question needs some cleaning and also the slider for photo/eyepiece is very stiff. The head is like the one in the attached image. There are two screws on top but it i...

Re: My newly refurbished gemscope

I don't want to day because it was pretty cheap. The apparatus is neat but I ended up taking it off in the end since it doesn't play well with tilting the head back and forth. So if you're interested I could sell it. The M10 is absolutely spectacular, night and day vs the very competent Chinese gre...

Re: Leitz Orthoplan darkfield: dedicated DF or phase condenser?

Thanks, a lot of good info there, despite much of it being bad news :( I will have to find out the particularities of the various Leitz DF condensers regarding the low end mags. It is really quite disappointing if the limit there turns out to be 25x or thereabouts. As to high end, point taken. I hav...

Re: Leitz Orthoplan darkfield: dedicated DF or phase condenser?

Ok, thanks guys for the informative comments. What about using the dedicated DF condenser that is intended for larger aperture objectives and oil immersion with those dry high aperture objectives? I would like a DF system without using oil immersion. However, I do happen to have a set of Leitz water...

Leitz Orthoplan darkfield: dedicated DF or phase condenser?

Hello, Does someone know if there are any benefits to image quality or otherwise in using a dedicated darkfield condenser (i.e. condenser no. 88) as opposed to using the darkfield annulus that exists in the Orthoplan Zernike phase condenser (i.e. condenser 402a)? It lookse like no. 88 would allow ob...

Re: Reichert Plan 1,25x

Interesting and verifies what I thought. Regarding pol, I only have the basic pol cube that goes above the revolver (the one that does not have any dials, levers etc.). If I could find the polarizer unit that goes on the outlet of transmitted light, under the condenser, that would give simple transm...

Re: Reichert Plan 1,25x

Keep in mind that the back focal plane was not a big issue because even in the era of finite optics, Reichert upper prisms for DIC had the ability to move the prism vertically relative to the back aperture. Meaning only one prism was used for all magnifications Even better then! I like the prospect...

All Reichert objective were built to a strain free standard so they were conditionally strain free. Keep in mind, that strain can be introduced simply be overtightening an objective in t...

That is my hope as well :D Apparently it takes a lot of glass to build a Plan low mag lens. In comparison the high mag Plan Apo IK Iris lenses on the Polyvar seem almost weightless. I do like the prospect of having this low mag option on board. Who knows, after some years maybe I'll have a second, l...
