Leitz Condenser Help
Hello y'all! Cool weather finally took hold in my are of Tennessee so I can start exploring more outside without the sun bearing down 24/7. I am getting a trinocular head soon so hopefully I can post pictures! Anyways while messing around with bright field and some oblique (really need to find a bet...

WANTED Leitz Laborlux Trinocular and/or dark-field condenser
Hello hunters! My new (well old?) Leitz Laborlux stand came in yesterday, and i could not be happier! I see why black enameled stands are so sought after, truly is a beauty. However this is not my first stand, i have an AO series 4, so i would like to upgrade this stand a bit. I would like a trinocu...

Re: Flagellates and Ciliates
Thank you ! I can say that the sample originated from the smelly ooze at the shore of a local pond. The original sample went into a covered plastic milk jug that I keep alongside my "pond aquarium", then I put some detritus from that jug into a petri dish with some of the water and dropped a kernel...

Re: Flagellates and Ciliates
Lovely video! You keep mentioning you dropped the kernel into a sample, however where was the sample from? I am assuming a local pond no? If so how stable is such a culture?

Re: Microscope Community Outreach
After talking to a teacher it may even be possible for me to 3D print phone mounts so kids can take pictures of what they see. I think this may work better than me displaying just off of my stand? I have until December, so i have plenty of time to fiddle around.

Re: Microscope Community Outreach
I was thinking i could do a cheek cell lab. Simply scrape cells off their cheek using a cotton swab, stain with methylene blue, then as they observe give a short presentation on cell structure. Or, depending on the age of the kids maybe even show plasmolysis as shown in :http://www.microbehunter.com...

Re: Microscope Community Outreach
You guys are so helpful! Before i dive too much into the logistics of what I can view, and how I am gonna present it (btw, has anyone hooked up a microscope camera to a projector?) i have to see if my school will let me borrow some 'scopes. Bob, I will be sure to keep this up to date as I pursue thi...

Microscope Community Outreach
Hello all! It has been forever since I have last posted, however I have stayed up to date on the forum. Because of school i was forced to take a break from microscopy, but now that I have more free time, I jumped back in and even purchased a new leitz stand (pictures coming soon, I am hoping to be m...

Most likely combine zp, but before that I am gonna try and either make a better phone mount, or get a dedicated camera.

Would a Spencer dark field condenser work on an AO series 4? I ask because of the close relations between the two companies.

Nikon G for Cheap
Selling my old microscope to upgrade my new one. Nikon G that is somewhat working. Needs a lot of TLC for the condenser apparatus ie. whole new condenser and new mounting screw. The Nikon G was a simple student type microscope similar to the S series. Accepts many of the same attachments. Pm me for ...

Re: My First Diatom Hunt
I wish I could expose longer, but my camera is a phone  my next investment will probably be a proper camera. Would pantyhose work as a mesh? I plan on getting a lot more rock, and because of human intervention some glass bottles and such. Gathering these instead of rocks may reduce the amount o...

Re: My First Diatom Hunt
thanks man. I am not sure why the images are so dark when the actual picture I see through the microscope is decent. My density is very poor however, maybe the stream is not as bountiful as I thought? Who knows, I still have a whole jar to search through.

Re: My First Diatom Hunt
It should be noted that this was one scan. However these little buggers are, for lack of better terms, microscopic! All i see from my 10x is a line (i found these by comparing uniform shapes to surrounding sediment). Is there a better way to find them?

My First Diatom Hunt
So, i have been reading the procedures and collecting tips on diatoms recently and thought "I can do that". So today, i will go to a nearby stream and begin my hunt! Any tips and suggestions will be welcomed. (BTW, the diatoms will be kept uncleaned because i do not have the materials for permanent ...
