Re: Oamaru IV
All great images! I think I like the first one the best. Same with me. The non-uniform ornamentation pattern of the diatoms in the 2nd and 3rd images is intriguing: are the tiny holes blocked? by a calcareous precipitate? Thanks Hobby. Regarding the tri-lobed diatom, which I believe to be Tricerati...

I see that they are numbered, is this part of a future ID project? Web page ... book?
The numbering is another go at organizing the images on my hard drive, no larger plan to clutter the world with my attempts at imaging.

All great images! I think I like the first one the best. I take it you did a lot of image editing to eliminate background clutter? I think it does help the viewer to concentrate on the image. Great to see another 4 series user, too. Thanks Rick. Yes, I should have mentioned that I cleaned things up...

Re: A Darkfield Stop and a Diatom Slide
Excellent - love to see this kind of experimentation.
I had good luck with stops with 10 and 20x objectives, at 40x it got to be a real trick getting the precise alignment and the stop size right.
Great job, keep posting your results.

Hi Bob, Glad you like them, there will be more to come. We are in agreement on your IDs. That spicule really grabbed my attention. I think it was about a 50 image stack to capture its depth. The second one is playing mind games with me, I see it as convex, look away and back and it is concave. Goofy...

Re: Oamaru New Zealand Fossil Diatoms
Hi Rod, thank you for showing - these Oamaru diatoms often are especially beautiful. I once was lent a bottle of material to make some single diatom slides for a project. I was astonished to find mostly little broken diatoms and ended putting a knife tip full through a 50µ sieve to quickly collect ...

What do you use to control the focusing while taking the images for stacking? Do you use a normal canon lens for photography or do you use a specialty adapter lens, such as this: https://www.amazon.com/OMAX-Microscope-Adapter-Canon-D-SLR/dp/B01D914LT2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539802448&sr=8-3&keywor...

That's no ordinary AO Series 4, my friend ... that is a Series 4 with the hottest glass AO ever made (I think, and would love to be corrected if mistaken), and with Rod at the controls. Lovely -- any secret source of extra cool sample material to brag about? Looking forward to more... Thanks buddy....
