Latest iteration of my Zeiss Standard
Thanks to Charles and the modular design, an arm upgrade has turned my microscope into a Zeiss 18!
It now has a removable turret and though it is not immediately apparent, a 5 objective nosepiece. :)

Re: Arcella - Testate Amoeba video
Nice video.
That is usually the reason to shoot video, though I do think that some subjects/activities are more suited than others. I like both.I was hoping to shoot some stills for a stack, but it was moving and twisting enough that I thought it unlikely to succeed, so shot a video.

Re: Boring algae, NOT spirogyra
All the spirogyra in all of my jars has disappeared, just about all I can find is similar to this, whatever it is. I think the new alga, possibly cladophora, found the present conditions more amenable or as Darwinists might say, less rigorous. Not sure what was meant by punk form , but do not think...

The extra sprinkling of dust particles are what happens when one attempts to clean the sensor with the wrong tool. :(
They are also interesting to look at in polarized light to watch the crystals "Dance".

I thought at first it might be the dreaded polka dot amoeba.
But zzffnn is probably right - with the proviso that the substrate is most likely plastic rather than paper.

I believe Oliver's caution was based on the risk entailed by a process that by its very nature produces high concentrations of random bacteria. Much higher concentrations than one would normally find in an average everyday drop of sampled water.

There were 3 active ones, was hoping to catch them leaving the cyst - missed them all.

Welcome Dragon27, ... what microscope and camera adapter I should purchase. The answer to that question depends very much on what areas of microscopy you are interested in, your budget and possibly on how handy you are mechanically. This is a topic that has come up several times, a search through th...

Re: Zeiss Standard gets a new home
If you remember the instructions in the 60w Illuminator manual - it tells you to aim the illuminator at a wall about 2 or 3 meters away - then move the socket until the filament is in focus (page 3). At this point the element should be focused at the Front Focal Plane when the illuminator is back on...

Obviously roofs are laden with all sorts of airborne pollution and many dormant or living organisms ... No one seems to have mentioned that collecting rainwater from a roof at the end of a heavy storm, when it has basically been washed cleaner, should provide better quality water. It does however e...

Obviously you think it prudent.
