Re: Easier than I could have believed

This is the one I used. Bought it for a Petrographical scope I was restoring, but the knobs were in the way of the objectives. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mechanical-XY-Stage-40x40mm-Graduations-for-Polarizing-Microscope-w-Rotary-Plate/143116520851?epid=8019378754&hash=item215268cd93:g:L3QAAOSw3v5XIz54...

Re: Easier than I could have believed

Well, the sum total of the “work” was drilling a hole and tapping it to fit the mounting screw on the clip. This one has a nice straight edge that sits 1/4” from the straight edge of the base. I spent a lot of years working as a printer, and recognizing wheather or not two lines a quarter inch apart...

3D image?

I was looking at slides on the Olympus SZ40 Stereo scope and wondered if it would be possibloe to record the 3D image for a 2D medium such as the forum. My first experiment. I need to work out some lighting issues. I chose this old dry mount I made a couple of years ago because it has a lot of depth...

Re: Three B&L “Model” microscopes

Not trying to bump this one but I wanted to include some observations. I got all three of these working again. I disassembled them to try to understand how they were supposed to work, then try to make them work correctly. I also didn’t want to mess with the stand that was working fine, even for refe...

Easy addition. Drilled and tapped for this mechanical stage. Completely removable. I already had this mechanical stage. I would look at amscope. They knock their’s down to $15 USD now and then. I’m old and blind, and had to get a bright flashlight to see it but the only thing I can find are two patents on the back curve of the finger hook. Dec. 11, 1900 and Aug. 28, 1906. Nothing on the heel or the occuler sleeve nor on the bottom of the foot. Even swung the mirror to the side to check the...

Re: 1917 Spencer model?

Hi, Apo, thanks for the response. This one does have the swing out condenser. It has an iris just under the top of the condenser. The horseshoe base is square in section of the pillar, whereas the 40 I found in a catalog had a cilendrical piller. Does this fit the 30 in your sources? Radazz When yo...

1917 Spencer model?

Trying to find a model designation for this Spencer microscope. Serial number dates it to 1917. From the catalogs I have been able to find, it appears to be an early variation or a predecessor to the model 40. Re: Three B&L “Model” microscopes

Writing this post inspired me to look through each of these again. The oldest one has become too fragile to play around with :( . Sadly is just for display now. The dated stand that has been stripped has a functioning course focus, but the fine focus creeps around the center of the fov. Bent needle,...

Re: Revival of old Brasso paste

Brasso really cleans down to the metal. It also efficiently dissolves any finish.
I’ve found it is better to use a light polish with jewelers rouge followed by Renaissance Wax to preserve the lacquer finish and still get a nice shine.

Re: Three B&L “Model” microscopes

I can see no de-lamination at all. All three produce clean images. The only real problem is with two of the three fine focus assemblys. The design used a leaf spring to resist the fine focus screw, but it is a weak point. Time seems to have defeated two of these scopes. Needless to say I am very car...

Re: My beast

I’ve just stumbled upon another advantage of the inverted scope. I have some antique ‘Continental’ size slides, and I can just plop them upside down on the stage without using some kind of jig to fit them into a slide clip. This stage moves both directions. And while none of us would do so :? , you ...
