Re: Fresh-Water Invertebrates of the United States

Seems this post has collected a lot of booksperts. So I ask, is there a well illustrated bible of the
denizens of fresh-water ponds? Maybe even salt-water?
I truly enjoyed a quick perusal of the Medicology book, will read more, it sure beats Facebook drivel.

Re: xylol - xylene?

My 2 cents' worth: I agree with everything Oliver and John B. said above. I will add that if, for whatever reason, you decide to use xylol, try not to breathe it in. And please do not use zylol/zylene bought from a hardware store (only very pure stuff should be used for cleaning optics). For cleani...

Re: Stereo Microscope for a Beginner

You found the right place for high class advice. I would take Lorez' advice for a brain surgeon if I needed one. I have two nearly identical zooms, and comparing the same bug from one to the other I found that good glass makes all the difference in the world, magnification power is over rated. You c...

Re: Hi, from Alberta Canada

I'm definitely overwhelmed by all of this.. :) I found this page http://user.xmission.com/~psneeley/Personal/Objectives.htm that breaks down the objectives situation a bit. The only way to get infinity lenses according to this page, is to get a Series 10, 20, 110, 120, etc. OR AO-Reichert, Reichert...

Re: Seeking advice on my first microscope

It is terribly risky for a novice to buy something like an old microscope on ebay. How bout posting a wanted in the buy and sell. It seems like the good AO10's and similar are getting rarer, but there are people around who know how to get them, and they are worth every cent, so old but so much bette...

Re: Familiar item, unfamiliar use.

I wish I could do that. If I don't use a whole scope cover the cats hair is all over them. I do have a question about storing obj's in these pill bottles. What would be a safe material to fill the gaps? Everything that I think of sheds particulate. The real obj's holders are ridiculously expensive, ...

head. Sorry for such a stupid post.

Re: New microscope person from Berkeley, CA, USA

You got a real valuable boat load of information, as did I when I restarted my microscope adventures. I was very lucky to get both an AO compound and stereoscope from a professional. I did not think I would need a stereoscope, but like many I use it all the time. Never hesitate to ask a question at ...

Still no, but the comparison at the Berkley site showed some. I believe the photography leaves some
thing to be desired, as I can see a real difference with my own equipment. Nice concise 7 step procedure
tho.

Is this a good book for protozoa identification?

The title is How To Know the Protozoa, from the Pictured Key Nature Series. I have read the one for freshwater algae as my library had it.
If I can get it for $30 should I jump on it?
