What can you tell me about the Wacker FCA stain you used? I had not heard of it.

Those colors are just outstanding! And the mix of subjects is really interesting.

Tonight's project was a cross section of a pine needle. It tested my still developing skills in nearly every way, and I am not declaring victory. First was cutting the sections. Using a hand microtome, I am sure you can imagine just how tiny these devils were. Getting them off of the razor, then on ...

I did cut the sections using a hand microtome. That is a bit of an art form that I am still learning.

A couple of looks at a cilantro leaf.

The first is a cross section. 45x objective, brightfield, afocal using a Nexus 6 phone

The second caught my attention when I discovered the nicely visible xylem in the middle of the field. Same technical set up.

Safranin Crystals under polarizers, 10x objective, Afocal, Nexus 6 phone.

I have a couple more of this slide that I think are really striking.

Very nicely done.

I prefer the first of the two original images. The color palate is a bit nicer to my eyes. The wider field version has a short of oriental art feel to it for me.
