Re: Oil immersion or higher power eyepieces?

One example quoted states that a 15x eyepiece with a x40 objective gives 600x magnification while still providing acceptable resolution. Since I have no experience using either, I wanted to ask members what the experience is like with using higher power eyepieces when compared to using oil immersio...

Re: Swift-Binoculars

My point was not that Swift weren't Made in Japan rather, it was whether they had manufacturing facilities there. In other words did Swift ever own a microscope factory, as is more or less claimed by the current owners of the trademark, or did they simply have an existing company, make scopes for t...

Here is the manual for the Swift M3200 ... printed in Japan

Admittedly not a guarantee that the instrument was made there; but a substantial hint.

Interesting how some companies likes to put a spin on things. Re: Nikon "condenser holder"

Thank you! I will go try it now. If I am unable to find that "one match" is there a way to spot it? Or is it a process of feel? Just a matter of feel ... Count how many starts there are; then pick one at random: If it doesn't feel good just back-out, keep a little pressure on, and and let it drop i...

That looks like a multi-start left hand thread.

There will probably be one 'match' that works slightly better than the others, but it should just screw in anti-clockwise.

Re: Rational round sensor camera anyone?

The optimum technical solution would, I think, be a square format sensor

But, as PeteM mentions; viewing formats are typically rectangular, and tending towards wider aspect ratios.

Given square pixels: Circular sensors are really not a credible solution.

Re: Just bought Leitz objective...

Tried just about every combination of 'scope and condenser etc but no joy. Knowing how superb the Leitz 'scopes are it seems clear that the answer would be the fabled 'large-field condenser' which I suspect will be very hard to find indeed. Re: Just bought Leitz objective...

The Orthoplan's condenser (600 series lower element and body 'bathtub') fills the x4 objective fine with the top lens swung out, but I suspect the x1 objective may need the condenser out as well... p.s. do you think it may work for whole tissue (i.e. not flat and sectioned) with incident illumination too to some extent? That would be very useful also. Yes, I think it should be fine. Ah, yes I see Michael, will closing the iris raise contrast also, which can be handy at such a low magnification I think? John, I stand to be corrected, but I am sure that 'built-in iris diaphragm' is not the same thing as 'correction collar' ... I think you will find that the diaphragm serves exactly the same purpose as the one in a camera lens. I have never seen a low power objective that needed a correction collar. ...
