Re: Something weird pus sample. Any ideas?
I do not know what this is, but it doesn't appear to be flagella. I also doubt that it is fibrin, because I don't expect to see isolated strands of fibrin, but rather mats and sheets. Any more pics? 600X?

Please let me know for sure what you guys think, she only had one, but one of the other Florida wild caught chameleons I found had >20 in his mouth. I remov...

Re: Help identifying mange mite on dog
Could you please look at image 0002 & 0006 and confirm whether I am looking at the correct organism. I am very new at this and these structure almost resemble dead pondwater diatoms which I am used to looking at. Zeitgeist, Sorry, but none of the things in the images of your scrapings are of any si...

Re: Holes in red blood cell?
The shape of the mammalian red blood cell (RBC) is classically a "Biconcave Disc." Depending on a number of factors, these discs have different degrees of biconcavity, which creates what is known as "central pallor." The central pallor is caused by the relative thinness of the area created by the ce...

Re: Not sure, Schistosoma?
As I understand it, these guys don't live very long outside a host -- Is that correct? Incorrect. Schistosome adults are never found outside the definitive host (i.e., mammal). They reside within the mesenteric vessels of the definitive host, where they will release eggs into the host circulation. ...

Re: Not sure, Schistosoma?
It doubt very much that it is a Schistosome. The adult stages of this organism (which is the only stage that shares any resemblance to the subject of your image) is restricted to the intestinal vessels of the definitive host. The eggs are the only products that are ever released from the definitive ...

Re: Unknown organism
I agree with hkv. It does appear to be some type of mite; not one that I've ever seen on animals.

Re: Amscope Digital Camera to Olympus BH-2
Thank you, Hobbyst46, for the congratulations and the piece of mind. did you get an NFK eyepiece within the deal? I do not know because I have yet to receive the scope and I did not ask. I asked the seller several questions and it is clear that the seller does not know microscopes. I would assume it...

Re: Help with microscope purchase (Mix-&-Match)
Excellent deal. I actually made an offer on this scope but was declined!! LOL I wont bother to mention his counter offer although even at the buy it now it is a good deal. Holy cow! Talk about a small world! Well, it's relieving to know that my first compound-scope purchase wasn't a complete noob-p...

Re: Help with microscope purchase (Mix-&-Match)
Thanks again for the advice MicrobeHunter-Forum experts. I took your (75RR and einman) advice and went with the Charles Krebs setup (Olympus BH-2 with Olympus SPlanApo 10x, 20x, 40x, 100x objectives). I believe I may have got a once-in-a-lietime deal, too. The eBay seller knew nothing about microsco...

Amscope Digital Camera to Olympus BH-2
Hello Friends, I recently took some advice from several MicrobeHunter-Forum'ers (75RR and einman) and purchased an Olympus BH-2 with Olympus SPlanApo objectives (10x, 20x, 40x, 100x). The scope also has a DIC attachment and a twin headpiece. I am a small animal veterinarian so my ultimate goal is to...

Re: Help with microscope purchase (Mix-&-Match)
WOW! Quite a drop from an Olympus BX-51 to an Amscope. Seriously! I am no longer working for the private investigator whom allowed me to conduct my hobby microphotography on her research BX-51. At least I am familiar with the ins-and-outs of a decent quality scope and will quickly identify whether ...

Re: Help with microscope purchase (Mix-&-Match)
Thank you for the sweet link to Charles Kreb's setup. I recently stumbled across that page and already have it bookmarked, but I am still on the fence. let me explain: I purchased an Amscope stereo-microscope last year, and I fell in love with the brand. It is an extremely sturdy, well-built microsc...

Help with microscope purchase (Mix-&-Match)
Okay, so I am not new to microscopes, but I am new to purchasing microscopes. I have about 5 years experience on an Olympus BX-51 (bright field) and I have taken thousands of micrographs. I already have a top of the line microscope camera and I am more than satisfied with the quality of images it pr...
