Re: Fixed Köeler
Thanks, David ... it was just a hope The Zeiss document does include an image that clearly shows an array of LEDs ... so I’m pretty sure that we are on the right track. Like you, I can find no definition or explanation of the term ... but it seems to be in fairly widespread use: Olympus, Zeiss, and...

It appears to be a ‘convenient approximation’ for routine [non-critical] use, David This, from Zeiss, goes a little further towards explaining: http://focuspi.com/Site/AXIO_SCOPE_A-1_files/AXIO%20SCOPE%20A-1%20BIO60-2-0004_e.pdf] [see pp7-9] MichaelG. Fixed Köhler
I'm looking at the Olympus CX33 and CX43 microscopes and note they have "fixed Köhler" illumination.
I assume this means there is no adjustable field diaphragm?
How does fixed Köhler work, and does it have any disadvantages?

Re: Imaging help using a Canon dslr
For that you would need a relay lens. Good point, thanks for that. So the next question is : Is there any advantage (or reason) to want to put a dslr on the trino port considering the optical complications - no provision for a relay lens in the Swift tube ? Is the quality of the usb eyepiece camera...

Re: Imaging help using a Canon dslr
The T2 ring adapter will fit but will not be parfocal with the eyepieces.
For that you would need a relay lens.
The trinocular is most likely a permanent 50/50 split (50% to trinoc.. 50% to eyepieces).

Re: Olympus BH-2 question
Three other options: 1) Recollection is that the dovetail base of the condenser comes off with a few screws. Can't recall if extra care is required to keep the iris leaves in place as it's removed - replacing those requires a bit of patience. Anyhow once off, the inside can easily be machined, part...

Re: Olympus BH-2 question
David asked me this question through another channel ... Initially I answered, no, nothing will keep insert inside because of the conical shape. Even simplified insert (no magnets, flat base) will not help - condenser base is hanging in the air... But...morning is smarter than evening - I have very...

Omax objectives can be 'metal' finish in both achromatic or plan, but the Plan objectives are marked "Plan"
The black finish is semi-plan.

Re: 23.2 vs 30mm
I'm not sure Pete, I also have a BH-2 with WHK (high eyepoint) 10x/20, 23.2mm eyepieces. Viewing is much more comfortable with the Motic (resolution is better with the Olympus but that is likely the SPlan glass). 10x/20 doesn't seem uncommon for modern 30mm eyepieces - eg. Olympus CX33, Zeiss Primo ...

Re: 23.2 vs 30mm
I confess to being a bit confused! Field of view is Field number divided by (eyepiece magnification x objective magnification) Tube diameter plays no part in the calculation? I'm comparing comfort of long term viewing of 30mm eyepieces vs 23.2mm, not field of view, which is the same for both (assumi...

Re: 23.2 vs 30mm
hmm..well they seem to be 30mm eyepieces! Perhaps it is an optional head. It's a standard head. I'm not clear why you believe the eyepieces on the BA310 to be something other than 30mm. If you're referring to the 20mm measurement in your post above, that relates to the (wide) field of view, not the...

Re: 23.2 vs 30mm
I fully agree with Apochromat. What do the eyepieces look like from the bottom? Well that is less than 30 and I am guessing the eyepiece itself may have some restrictions. Here are the measurements of the 30 mm eyepieces on my Leitz Diaplan. It's a 30mm eyepiece/tube. The inaccuracy was due to tryi...

Re: 23.2 vs 30mm
My personal experience is a microscope built to maximize 30mm eyeieces has no deficit in brightness. Quite the contrary the view is much brighter. This is especially true when used with wider field objectives. Withn that said I was not aware the Motic BA310 had 30 mm view eyepieces. Their website i...

Re: 23.2 vs 30mm
I understand how more magnification gives less light, but I don't understand why a wider fov would. 30mm is generally nicer but as said above it shouldn't make a difference on image convergence. What was your previous scope? Brunel infinity scope. Actually produced a good quality image, but the Mot...
