23.2 vs 30mm
I am used to 23.2mm eyepiece tubes but recently acquired a compound microscope with 30mm eyepieces. What a difference! No more squinting or struggling to get my brain to see one image instead of two. Now I have a clear, bright field of view that is much more relaxing to use for long periods. I have ...

Depending on your classroom setup, equipment availability and number of students, HDMI connection to a large stand-alone monitor may be a better solution than USB to a laptop or PC.

Re: Olympus BX60F
That Lumenera is $3600 for 3.3mp? I guess that it is a highly sensitive camera, probably much more sensitive than a DSLR, at least in some parts of the spectrum. For scientific fluorescence studies, sensitivity can be more important than the no. of pixels. The main challenge in fluorescence...

The NFK 2.5x is intended for full frame cameras; your Nikon D3300 is DX format.

If you already have the camera and pancake lens, why not try first by setting up on a tripod?

According to this Live view should be possible...

Also, you should be able to power the camera using a dummy battery. Check eBay.

You would also need the T2 ring for which they want 31.90 euros plus shipping!
Again, much cheaper on ebay.

Re: Rant: Why it is difficult to buy a microscope - by webiste moderator
To me, on a more important note, is why I can't achieve a sharp image with my 24Megapixel Nikon camera through the proper phototube. I have tried everything. I even experimented with my camera and made a simple adapter to take pictures through the eyepiece thinking that the problem might be in the ...

Re: HA2307 HDMI industrial camera
I have to say after living with this camera for several weeks, I can not wait for my Nikon to come back. The thing that bothers me the most about this camera is the automatic exposure. It supposedly has exposure compensation through the menu, but it doesn't function correctly. Maybe I just don't un...

Re: BH-2 Focus adjustment question
The side that doesn’t come off will simply pull out. Planetary gears, along with small nylon gear on fine focus shaft, will be visible. Good luck There is a small amount of play in the nylon gear in the photo but none of them seem damaged. The small nylon wheel in the fine focus shaft looks ok too....

Re: BH-2 Focus adjustment question
Sometimes shims have not been applied. Depending on the backlash between gear box and rack which you can now see, some maybe applied to take up the excess slack. There should always be a small amount of play though. The lubricant in the gear box looks like it requires replacing. It should spin quit...

There is also a gear box in the back of the stand.... If the focus is stiff, and especially if it has noticeable hysteresis, then the grease is thickened and the scope needs service. This folder contains two PDFs that describe how to fix the focus mechanism: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bUoWPd...

Here's a manufacturer's table of DSLR & Mirrorless cameras suitable for microscopy - those that have Liveview via USB should be fine. Canon is a popular choice at a reasonable price point and Canon Utilities works well for camera control from a computer. https://www.lmscope.com/en/Camera_Ranking_en....

Re: BH-2 Focus adjustment question
Thanks Carl The tension can be adjusted so the coarse focus wheel is easy to turn - but when I do that the problem with the fine focus gets noticibly worse. When I tighten the coarse focus to the max, the fine focus is better but far from perfect. The fine focus adjustment itself is not stiff - the ...

Re: BH-2 Focus adjustment question
Thank you both; the allen key worked perfectly and I can now adjust the tension. It seems to require more turning than I expected to make a small change in tension. Anyway, the reason I was wanting to free the adjustment ring is there is a small but annoying problem with the fine focus. Hard to desc...

BH-2 Focus adjustment question
I have a BH-2 and would like to adjust the tension on the focus knob. According to the manual, this is achieved by inserting a screwdriver into one of the holes on the adjustment ring. On the unit I have here, the screwdriver can only be inserted a few mm and there is insufficient leverage to move t...

Re: 10x eyepiece for 23.2mm tube that fits this 33mm smartphone holder?
I'm thinking that with a 10x you would see a circular image within the rectangular phone display.
You'd then need to use the phone's zoom to fill the screen.
The supplied 20x eyepiece is doing that for you, optically instead of digitally.

Again, the link in post #5 to the relevant page on Alan Wood's site explains what is needed. You need the photomicro adapter L or a similar third party tube. According to that article, no Nikon adapter is available for the photomicro L, so you can either remove the Olympus mount and replace it with ...
