Re: Seeking advice on my first microscope
Hello, not the AmScope B100B-MS, as it does not seem to have a light intensity control. The other Amscope ones are fine in this respect. The knobs for the mechanical stage are also horizontal, which is inconvenient. If you look at the objectives, you will see that some of them use the same, so there...

Re: centre white spot
The bright spot could be due to the reflection of light inside the phototube. once had a similar issue. Closing the koehler diaphragm resolved this (should you microscope have this), alternatively you might want to check if the inside of the tubes are sufficiently dark, to reduce reflection.

Re: Canon Live View - storing to laptop?
Hello, This is called "tethered shooting". Here is a link explaining it for Canon cameras. http://www.jibble.org/canon-tethered-shooting/ If you use the Canon software, then you can directly store the images directly on the computer. The software also allows you to take automatic interval pictures, ...

Re: Posting of images, which are not your own
Hello, Yes, it is correct that hot linking might be also considered "stealing" of bandwidth or of the image, because you make it appear that someone elses image is your own. And indeed there have been cases like this before. I remember from the news that a company once sued for embedding weather cha...

Intresting: when creating the post the image will hotlink, later it will not show. Even though there is a direct image address. Clicking on the link directly will forward to the homepage. http://theqcc.hennig.ca/Jun/17/Dolerite%20100x_125.jpg right-clicking can be enabled by disabling javascript, bu...

Re: Hot link and copy protection
Hello, The hotlink and copy protection makes it more difficult to hotlink and copy images, but once something is online, it is out there. You can always make a screenshot and then save the picture this way. I think that putting a watermark is generally a good idea, and also reducing the image resolu...

Hello,
There are, unfortunately, always posts, which are either ads or simply copy-pasted fromother posts. I would indeed prefer private messages and I will then remove them. I have already made the registration questionmore difficult, but there are always posts and members that sneak through.

Dear forum members, Several members have experienced quota problems. I highly encourage all users who experience this issue to register at a free photo hosting sit...

Re: ID help needed. Parasites?
Self-diganosis rarely works. 1/3 of the dry weight of stool are bacteria anyway. It is impossible in most cases to determine the organism directly from observation. You need biochemical or histological tests to do this. Chances are too big that you are simply observing indigestible food matter, etc....

Just guessing: maybe these are able to hold so-called swan-neck lamps for illumination of the specimen from both sides. Swan-neck lamps have a lamp on the tip but can be bent into place, because the "neck" is flexible. But I am only guessing.

Hello, JPG: lossy compression, image quality goes down when saved, but low image size and the loss of quality can be adjusted and in most cases not noticable. Re: What am I looking at (blood sample)?
The stacking is due to the drying of the blood. Some alternative medicine advocates see in this rouleaux formation (as it is called) some diagnostic value, but there is noscientific evidence for this. The spiky red blood cells are due to osmotic imbalance, as the blood dries. It can also be that som...

Hello,
Do not attempt to fix anything, you might end up making things worse and then the seller has an argument for not exchanging the microscope. If the "ring bump" is due to external force (bent metal?), then maybe there are other things also wrong. Mictoscope should be exchanged.

Hello,
Bacteria are unlikely, because an internal structure is visible. Most bacteria do not have internal structures visible with light microscopes (except PHB deposits or endospores).

Hello, My interest in imaging blood cells is purely from an Art/Micrography/Microscopy perspective and not diagnose/analysis. OK. For your information, the second video is a textbook example of pseudoscience: it claims to be scientific, by using scientific terminology, but it is not. I wonder if the...

Re: That strange yellow glow...?
1. rotate the camera. if the position of the glow stays, then you have a camera issue. 2. remove the camera from the microscope and hold it to an even light sourse. check if the glow remains. aif so, then the problem is with the camera and not the microscope. I suspect that it might be a problem wit...

Re: Oil Objectives
if you want to use pond life, then you use water, of course, and then coverglass with oil. But this is difficult, because the pond life swims in and out of focus, and the depth of field of the 100x oil objective is quite low. You must make sure that the water film is sufficiently thin. I always used...

Re: To be relative or not to be. That is the question.
Hello, If you look at the photo contest winners (Nikon, Olympus have microphotography contests), then I think both aspects count. The images are pretty, but also are able to illustrate interesting scientific concepts or unusual perspectives or views. So they are "absolute" (i.e. absolutely pretty, a...
