I didn't buy the Zeiss - it was just an option I considered before I consulted this forum.Charles wrote:A less expensive option. If you already bought and have the Zeiss Neofluar objective coming, why not just get a pair of Zeiss KPL eyepieces?

Re: Better objectives for a Chinese microscope
Thanks for the answer, Charles! I've already downloaded the Nikon_CF.pdf brochure earlier today. For now I've decided to take a chance with a Nikon CF objective. That's what I've found on ebay, and I would really appreciate comments/suggestions: Nikon Plan Fluor CFN 40x /0.75 160mm TL Microscope Obj...

Re: Better objectives for a Chinese microscope
One question that is not is addressed is whether the frame and other elements of the microscope will adequately support the new objectives. I would suggest that you enjoy your microscope as it is while looking for a complete bigger and better system. lorez Lorez makes a good point. If you are going...

Re: Better objectives for a Chinese microscope
As far as I know, the only DIN objectives that do not need eyepiece compensation is Nikon CFN 160 mm series. It looks like it's hard to make an objective that doesn't require compensating eyepieces. So I'm starting to wonder if my OMAX also has some kind of compensating eyepieces. But how to unders...

Better objectives for a Chinese microscope
I have this microscope - OMAX 40X-2500X Digital Trinocular Compound Siedentopf LED Microscope with Kohler Illuminator and 14MP Camera (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UCEPH70) + plus a dry dark field condenser for a couple of weeks now. I like the microscope and have a lot of fun with it, but I...

Re: Dealing with evaporation
For what it's worth old chap - I use the exact method outlined above by Charles - water along one edge of coverslip - tissue to 'suck the water across the specimen' against the opposite side of the coverslip - I use this technique for very sensitive application of stains and their differentiation -...

National Optical?
Do you have any experience with the "National Optical" brand (part of the "Motic Group")? I'm somewhat disappointed with my Omax 40x objective performance and would like to try a different objective, if only just for learning experience. I've found these "National Optical" lens on Amazon, for a pric...

Dealing with evaporation
Too often after several minutes of browsing a pond sample slide I find something really interesting and make adjustments for a perfect photo - and a "wave" of water caused by evaporation comes and moves everything. How to deal with evaporation? I've seen something about using petroleum jelly, is it ...

I have a Nexus 5X and after watching your video video I'm thinking it could outperform ToupTek UCMOS14000KPA TP614000A I currently use.

Microturtle?
Found this creature in a pond water sample, 40x objective.
It's about 0.1mm long, looks a little bit like a microscopic turtle.
I believe it was alive and pumping water.
What is it?

Re: Six-legged critter
Thank you all, especially for the identification! Looks like it's a nasty little creature: "Cyclops is intermediate host of dracunculiasis (guinea-worm disease) and fish tapeworm (Diphyllobothrium latum) infection." ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclops_(genus) ) It was moving a lot at the beginni...

I've spent some more time with the pond water sample, and found couple of water fleas. These images I actually like, and it's clear that with focus stacking it would be much better. Dark field, 10x objective, just a little bit post-processing: Water flea_01.jpg Water flea.jpg On the other hand, wate...

This is a Desmid, a type of green algae. It belongs to the genus Closterium. There are many species and quite a few with this long thin shape. If you just got your first microscope yesterday, and these are your first two photographs I would certainly say...WELL DONE! Was the darkfield done with a s...

Hello, I just got my first ever microscope yesterday - OMAX 40X-2500X Digital Trinocular Compound Siedentopf LED Microscope with Kohler Illuminator and 14MP Camera. Here are my first two photos - something green and alive from pond water - in bright and dark field. I used 40x objective and didn't al...
